Both Knight and Izzo were fiery, man-to-man coaches whose teams often had the bulk of football teams. JB lost the most prominent game in each series, the first one, in the NCAAs to national championship teams. He then beat them 4 times in a row, three of them by decisive margins, one of them close. The second game in each was in the Big Apple NIT.

The Izzo series will now get another chapter so the comparison will begin to drift apart. But it's interesting to look at right now.
