I love everything related Syracuse Orangemen, and am a huge Orangemen basketball fan. But (you knew it was coming) my grandfather, and passed down to my dad, taught me that it's easy to be a Syracuse basketball fan and hard to be a Syracuse football fan. I was pulled in by the 1984 Nebraska win and never left. I was there with my brother in 1987 vs WV as we stormed the field, meeting Billy Owens on the turf as he was a high school senior with his brother Michael, screaming he needed to come to the Cuse.
Point is, I'm hoping for the day we have a Shafertown with kids camping out for tickets vs FL St. I know we have the potential to get back to a perennial top 25 program and compete for ACC championships and the new playoff system. The excitement surrounding this recruiting class and the upcoming fall season is greater than the past 15 years. Go Orangemen!

your grandfather must be very young because until Jim Boeheim arrived on campus in the 19 sixties along with david thing syracuse a laughing stock of college basketball and had a national longest losing streak. Meanwhile the college football team just was just coming off a national championship and was in the midst of it's hay day.

Syracuse was definitely not a laughingstock before Boeheim was coach.

I was in a freshman in 1961. Football was king and basketball was certainly secondary to football. From 1956 when Jimmy Brown scored every point in the Cotton bowl until I graduated in 1965 it was all about football.

There is a difference between being not as good as the football team and a laughingstock. Or the football team being king and a laughingstock. If he had said they weren't very good or they weren't as good back then as they are now, I probably would have agreed.

From 1960-1963 the team was 14-54, including a stretch of 27 consecutive losses.

The football team's slide and the basketball teams rise only overlapped for a handful of years.

I HATED that when I was at the cuse. The amount of basketball students was ridiculous and they just liked them because they were good which is fine. However, they should support both teams equally whether one is awesome or whether one sucks.

From 1924-42 SU was 262-84
From 1944-60 SU was 226-139
Danforth was 148-71 before Boeheim was hired as coach

Hardly a Laughingstock, you just happened to pick the 4 worst years in the history of the program and said EVERYTHING before Boeheim got here was a laughingstock. I am simply saying that is not true at all.

That would be like picking out the Gerg 4 years and saying we were a laughingstock before Marrone got here.

I've already started camping out in my house for the Florida State game next year.

I know when I went to college way back when they made our fraternity and others attend other sporting events on campus to get the "primetime games"

Does anyone know if the CUSE does this with their allotment for students, etc? For example they made us use all 25 tickets for the football game if we wanted to get our allotment for the basketball games?

I said the same thing when I was there, camping for basketball. Someday we'll get to a point where kids are fighting it out to get those best seats for football... and hey, those campouts will be easy compared to the Boeheimburg ones.

Exactly and you won't be able to get the season ticket seats that are available now!

It's like buying a risk-free certificate of deposit that pays 10%!
