Apparently the powers that be scheduling the bowl times think most of America has been off of work the last few weeks. For the love of God there are way too many interesting Match ups with noon or 2 pm starts! Come on man! I am a CFB junkie anf and want to take in as much of the game as I can. Our sport is leaving us in a week fellas!

Apparently, that is the target audience. I mean, Auburn / Memphis at noon tomorrow! Really?

I'm going to the Fiesta Bowl that starts at 11am. That's brutal.

I just don't get how they are scheduling some of these. Ohio State - ND as a 1 pm eastern, 11 am local time just makes no sense. That has huge rating 8 pm eastern all over it. And 6 pm local would be perfect for the crowd attending.

This New Year's Eve playoff scheduling, I'd bet, will be a one time blip on the radar when all is said and done.

Fortunately, all may a couple of the bowls are owned by ESPN, so they're also on WatchESPN. I watched the Navy/Pitt game on my phone at work yesterday. No problems.

I think the New Years Eve playoff games will be a blip. Makes no sense. Shows the power of the old boys running the Rose Bowl. Yes, the playoff games should be New Years Day but the Rose Bowl wants to remain the marquee game of the day. Saturday, 1/2/16 would have been a fine day for the national semifinals.

It's because ONE network (ESPN) has all of the games and they can't play every game at once. They need to stagger the start times. And with the Rose Bowl's time "locked in stone" everything revolves around the Rose Bowl on New Years Day. The days of playing these big games on multiple days can't be done this year because of where New Years Day falls in conjunction with the NFL schedule.

The New Years Eve playoff games is a nightmare for the network and a mistake everyone involved wish they addressed from the beginning and changed somehow. I would bet a large some of money you never see it like this again with playoff games on New Years Eve and trying to cram 3 major bowl games like this on New Years Day

I agree, but what would have been wrong with Saturday, 1/2/15 for the national semifinals? Seems perfect right. It's not til the next Saturday that the NFL takes over Saturdays.

Saturday night is a death day and time for TV in this country and the Saturday after Jan 1st most people are traveling home from the holidays it would be an utter disaster for ratings and getting advertising dollars from sponsors.

I disagree, Saturday means college FB from labor day forward, The national ABC games do well from a ratings perspective. The national semis on Saturday would be appointment TV in households, bars, everywhere. A big end of year Saturday celebration for college fb. Alot better rating than new years eve.

But these Final 4 games are bigger and there is more more money invested in them. They don't want them on Saturdays. Hence the championship game has NEVER been played on a weekend in a long time. The world has changed. It's all about time slots, advertising dollars, and eyeballs on sets. Saturdays are death in this country for that.

Hoops Final 4 seems to be ok with it.

NFL playoffs do it in the early rounds.

I think NYE ratings are going to be worse than anything you'd see on that Saturday. It's America's night out.

Basketball is different. Need to play that Saturday to get the championship game on a Monday. Plus TV $$$$ is VERY VERY different for football and basketball. Real money is with FOOTBALL!

NFL is a beast of its own and you can't compare. NFL could play games at midnight on a Wednesday and it would draw a good rating and bring in ad dollars. The NFL draws a rating with its combine for crying out loud. Can't compare anything with the NFL. NFL is in a world of its own.

The reason Fridays and Saturdays are bad is because people go out. On NYE, everyone goes out.

If college football can get good enough ratings on NYE, then a Saturday should be the least of their worries.

Will be interesting to see how they do.

this is the same argument as to why no big blockbuster ever came out over xmas.. star wars shows that to be a myth too.. too much going on, too much shopping, too many family parties... and now the 2 biggest movies of all time avatar and star wars have opened on the same day..

same for football. if you played the super bowl on a sat people would watch, many would party more, it would be an easier trip to go to the game for everyone. the tv ratings would not take a hit in any meaningful way, its all about the matchups as to who watches these games not when its played.

i know people go out new years eve. but far far more dont and are those that do the same segment that watches the games? this is the same argument as to why they dump shows on tv fri/sat and no one cares when it also used to be some of the best TV nights ever..
