I think it's even more than that.  I think it goes into the weekly gameplanning, the plays you'll plan on installing.  If you are playing BC in 2015, your entire gameplan is conservative.  You know you will outscore them because they won't score.

If you're playing Dino's offense, you can try that 'we'll run the ball and keep it away from them' crap, but that never works.  So most coaches now know they need to score, and score a lot to keep up.  It's going to hurt the defense of any team that one of these offensive masterminds coach.

It's the better plan to be the team that controls your destiny.  i.e. we're planning on scoring at least 7 TDs and doing it with at least 500 yards.  Try to keep up.
