announcers in this awful wake- clemson game were talking about how boyd is in coaches meetings because he needs more to do with having only one class - online strength and conditioning- is that allowable? one class? i guess the advantages of doing your work early being a 5th yr senior..

I thought you had to be a full time student to receive aid which is 12 credit hours I think?

thats what i thought i am guessing the announcers must be misinformed? certainly makes you wonder

Classes...like Matt Leinart at USC in his senior year? Ballroom dancing was his only class. Dennis Dixon's senior year his only class was Billiards.

I am not sure but I don't think either of those classes are 12 credit hours and were pretty highly publicized.

On the topic of Clemson, do they let their fans into their bench area to mingle with the players? Cuz that's what it looks like.

"online strength and conditioning".. what a better way to have a "tutor" actually do the class even. This is such a joke.

I long for the real Student Athlete days and there are some schools still trying to do that but the number trying is few these days. Clemson is is not one of those it seems LOL.

I'm fine with it as long as he has finished his degree. If he hasn't, it really makes you question the point of "amateurism" in collegiate athletics (for what its worth, i am anti-paying players but i digress).

On the same token, what's the point of even taking up a scholarship if all you plan to take is three credits? What do three credits cost for an out-of-state kid at Clemson, a couple grand? Free up the scholly for someone else.

Boyd could have finished degree last year but if he did, he would have to start a graduate degree program which would require 12 hours per semester and he obviously would not ever complete the masters degree. He can take less than 12 hours because he has less than 12 to complete degree. Not saying I agree or disagree with the system though. Good point about scholly, his family is well off and could pay for a class but housing and meal plan do add more cost. Slightly unrelated but Clemson can't take the same recruits or JUCOS as many others in the SEC or even some ACC schools due to admissions. Examples: FSU, Ole Miss, Miss St, LSU, Tennessee, Louisville, Auburn, Alabama, Kentucky, Arkansas, NC State, Missouri, South Carolina.

Clemson allows fans on field after every game, the gates open up and everyone can walk the field. Especially cool for kids to get souvenirs, pics, and autographs. We also allow fans to exit at halftime and enter back with ticket stub and hand stamp, rare for my trips to other schools, have not seen that at another college football venue before.

Looking forward to heading up there for the game next week. Good luck.

Regardless... Clemson looked good and really put it to Wake today.

Boyd's a 5th year senior, so as noted has done what he needs to in order to have just the one class (w/ some of you, not sure I totally agree with this system where one can do this, alas - obviously it's done and accepted).

Remember though - he's a 5th year SR.

Just wait though - you'll see Duke and UNC hoops players who normally wouldn't get in to a local community college "graduate" in 3 years from their (admittedly very good) schools...something kids w/ 1600 SATs (or whatever the top score is now) can't do. Alas, if you play hoops for K - you quickly become a really good student. He's just "that good".

Same thing weve seen for years with gtown and uconn. Gtown pulled a kid out of a mail room and got him eligible while kemba "I just read my first book" walker made that statement after getting his degree in 3 years.

I just read the rule. In your last semester if you are completing your degree and you are taking the credits needed for the degree, you can take less than the 12 hours and be eligible to play. So if this one course is all Boyd needs for his degree, then he is eligible.

Do any of us actually care our guys are taking real, challenging coursework? I mean isn't this the hypocrisy of it all? To be honest, these guys wear my Orange (...blue) and that's all I care about.
It would be great if these guys capitalized on the great educational opportunities, but I don't lose sleep if they don't.
Let's be real.

I certainly get the rule - although I think it is dumb. So I take it that since the BCS champ game ( which we will ruin for the tigers this saturday ;) ) falls between semesters that if a student graduates like Boyd should, then they are still eligible to play for that game without registering for any spring courses?
