My oldest son has been nominated by his superiors for military serviceman of the year. He can't tell me a lot of what he does (he is a cryptologist at Ft. Mead) but he did share that he was pretty involved in major events around the world.
He has been a great teacher to me. Against our wishes and what we thought was his best interest, he left college with 1 semester left and followed his heart to go to join the Navy. He has been around the world twice. He met his wife, who we adore. He leads a team of 30 people. He has become a real leader (he was talking about some work things today and saying that “you can't lead people if they don't trust you”’ which I thought was insightful for a 29 YO.) He is making a difference for people at home and abroad. The lesson: trust your kids to follow their heart. It will lead them where they are supposed to go.
