He's probably laughing his hard nosed ass off in his office now. His cough is from "motivating" his players. It happens to many coaches. What a bunch of clowns.

I actually thought it was informative. Some people would probably misconstrue the coughing and saying its the pressure and he can't handle the stress being a head coach. Similar to what people said about Marrone when they said he aged 10 years, became heavier, beat down and couldn't cut it with the rigors of the football season.

Can't make everyone happy. It wasn't really an article more of a quick blurb and I'll take that over no information at all being written or the reporters "opinions" on strategy, recruiting about the football team. I like facts and he stated facts.

In tomorrow's article the Post Standard details the amount of times Coach Shafer blinked in his latest press conference.

Then you can continue to be one of the 20 people that read that hack's work and continue to support Syracuse.com enjoy

I fully expected to open this thread and see something to the likes of..."But he's about to put it in the barn this Saturday!" And now, I'm just disappointed. Hope HCSS feels better!

But seriously, who knew this? "Hay fever is not considered contagious because the primary cause of it is allergies, rather than a virus."

And all this time I thought...:rolling:

Some of this stuff they print is a scene straight out of Dinner for Schmucks.

Worst thing is that this crap is what the ESPN bloggers are linking for their "lunchtime links" feature. Unless the DO is putting out good, substantive articles about the team, people should link to this site for the real coverage.

I wonder how many other BCS football teams don't have a legitimate media outlet reporting on the team.

So you didn't read the article but commented anyways. Logical. Or you read it and therefore supported Syracuse.com as much as I did.

I'm not a fan of most the articles from these guys but everyone is really going to complain when there is no Syracuse paper or if articles start costing money.

I think the point is that noone NEEDS to read the articles written by that staff anymore because we know they are not capable of anything worth reading. You will figure that out soon. In addition...if there were only 2 possible options as you are suggesting with one being there is no syracuse paper at all and the other being articles costing money if cohen and crew are not a part of it...then i would gladly take no paper at all.

I wish Jerome would get the freaking hay in the barn already so SMFS can get healthy

Yeah, this one didn't bother me. Much of Mink and Carlson's work doesn't bother me. Well, Carlson when he's just talking about football. Cohen does a nice job with the personal interest/background stories on players. I think he's supposed to be a beat writer, correct? For covering the day to day stuff, he comes off as trying to be part Webb, part Rahme, part Bud. And isn't really succeeding on any of the 3.

If we want to continue getting news from the PS, we have to realize that Donnie and Dave aren't walking back through that door.

Why stop with his coughing? What about his sex life? Is he prone to a dry, flakey scalp? Any constipation? How about heartburn?

This is not mockery, these are story ideas.

If the coverage was fine then there wouldn't be as many complaints as there are.

I'm not sure about that.

There is a herd mentality that impacts this board all the time on a variety of issues whether it's "we should have won that game" or "he doesn't know how to call plays" or "Rutgers sucks" - etc.

I think a lot of posters are now looking for a reason to complain.

Rahme was a great reporter of SU Football - he is missed.

Otherwise, I find that I am getting decent information from the various beat reporters.

The complaints started before the season started. Dopey Cohen's tweet about AJ Long was before the season. People are pissed that we're stuck with a beat reporter that values being the Mark Schwarz of central NY more than access to the coaching staff and the team. That's why 75% of every article we read is "analysis" of information that is readily available, borrowed from a third party site, or gleaned from standard Q&A.

Maybe you have just chosen to start paying attention to it now.

Nah...while critical of Cohen, I have no problem giving him props when he does a good story...which he does.
