With 11:50 or so left in the 2nd qtr, Maryland has a 3rd & 8 from their own 38. They throw a kickout screen to their back in the flats, Bromley reads it, disengages with the center and hauls ass to tackle the running back from behind near the numbers on the field for only a 2 yard gain. 4th down, punt. The announcers: "And look at Bromley cover the ground and go get him at the 40-yard line. Boy, Jay Bromley is a 285-290 pound defensive tackle making that play. And that's the key, with this Syracuse defense, they're big, but it's so key they can run sideline-to-sideline and Maryland on offense continues to struggle to pick up their defensive pressure. How bout the big fella?" Here is the link to watch on espn3.com (go to 52:25 mark): http://espn.go.com/watchespn/player/_/id/1215707/size/condensed/ One of the reasons I point this is because it was awesome to see a big DT show off his speed, hustle and athleticism and take down a much faster running back 15 yards away. The main reason is to show how far the unnoticed kid from NYC has come. From having no scholarship offers, to picking one up after a HS all-star game at the Dome, to developing into one of the better DT's to ever play at Syracuse is incredible. These are the types of plays that make that kid a special talent. I really hope he gets a good chance at the next level. He has the physical tools and the athleticism to make it.
