I was thinking about it. If Broyld really gets to work this offseason, with his physicality I think he can become an Anquan Boldin type. Both guys were quaterbacks out of high school and players of the year in their respective states (Althought Boldin was a much more gifted thrower). Boldin recorded a 4.7 40 yard dash at the combine, similar to what I think Broyld will run. Both guys are tremendous competitors, and as a 49 fan I can tell you first hand watching Boldin compete is just awesome. I think if Ashton puts the work in he can fit into the Boldin mold.

I've made this (hopeful) analogy a few times. He should try to model his game after Boldin. I haven't seen him go up and win the battle in the air for a ball, like Boldin is so good at.

As it stands, Broyld, for all his reported athleticism, seems like a tweener at multiple positions.

When I think of Boldin, I think of a tough, physical receiver. From what some seemingly in the know posters say, Broyld doesn't like contact. If that is truly the case, he's got a long way to go before he's Anquan Boldin. However, I would love for him to get to that level!

exactly. boldin is as tough an sob as there is in the nfl. broyld...not so much at this point from what we've seen...and that isn't usually an acquired skill. that said, i was pleased with the slants he ran in the bc game. could be that he just needs the game to slow down a bit.

The Tim Wright, Tampa Bay TE/WR hybrid looks like a much better comparison. Though, honestly, I still believe we have only barely seen what AB is capable of doing. Next year is huge for him.

Boldin played with a fractured jaw wired shut.. fearless over the middle with great hands. HORRIBLE AND I MEAN HORRIBLE COMPARISON.
I don't think he intended to suggest AB is nearly as tough as Boldin. He meant that he has similar athletic gifts, and if AB could adopt Boldin's toughness, he could be a similar player. It's not an unfair comparison in that respect.

It's horrible all the way around. Boldin was an all American at FSU, A stand out WR, Guy is probably 6-0 with glue for hands. Not seeing any similarities whatsoever.

You are either tough or you aren't. Plain and simple

You're right their size and speed are completely different (Boldin 6' 1" 220, Broyld 6' 4" 225). No one is trying to say AB is as good as Boldin, but Broyld's size and speed can lead to wishful thinking. He can work on his hands, Qadry Ismail went from stone hands to dependable during his career, and maybe he can develop a mean streak. Will he ever be Boldin? No. Can someone compare physical tools and dream? Sure, there's nothing wrong with that.

Broyld has the mean streak, the competitiveness... i guarantee the more comfortable he gets with the position the more tenacity and agressiveness you will see out of him. There is no way imo he leaves here after 4 years as a what could have been. He will be a go up and get it/physical/boldin like reciever by the time he leaves

I stand corrected. This guy ^ is suggesting he'll be as good.
