They weren't cans per se, as they were the best of what the UFC had at the time. Even now the division is very top heavy, as is Flyweight, really only Strawweight has some depth to it.

He would have been 80 this year and I’d still take a senior citizen Bruce Lee over Rousey (maybe not enough to put money on but you get the point).

Rousey was like all professional fighter bullies - tough until they got hit in the face. Tyson was a lot like this too. Whenever he got hit back it usually didn't end well for Iron Mike.

Ronda could take a punch, there was no denying that, she wasn't Brock Lesnar. Her issue (beyond any stand up technique or defense) was opponents who had good standup and good takedown defense. Beyond her judo, she didn't possess a good double leg to get in on and takedown her opponent. So if her takedowns were nullified, and her opponent had good technique standing she wasn't going to win. The Holms fight, she was rocked multiple times, and that kick to end it would have ended anyone, it was that well placed. The Nunes fight, Nunes is very technical and has good power, good takedown defense and doesn't give a crap, not a good recipe for Rousey.
