Buddy named to NABC POY Watch List

Highly doubt he'll win it, but if he (and the team) have a strong nonconference season, he could be in the mix.

If he is going to play like he did in the tournament (minus Houston) - then he should win going away - doubt his shot is going to be that on all season though

I have a question for the board. I have a friend who does not understand why Buddy would want to leave after this season. Yes, he knows that like most talented young men, he is eager to see if he can make it in the NBA. It is hard to wait. But my friend says - and I believe this to be true - that by forfeiting the last year of his eligibility he will miss out on some of the best moments of his life. Here he will always be beloved and a star. He will probably never have so much fun and he can continue to hone his skills. And he doesn’t need the money, which is often a reason college kids go to the NBA ASAP.

Time for him to fly. If he is ready. We would love for these guys to come back but the smell of money is a pretty good scent.

Well, I actually do know why Buddy will leave after this season. He has a great reason and it just shows what a great kid he is. Buddy doesn't want to break any Syracuse records because he got an extra year. Growing up such a devoted Syracuse fan, those records are sacred to him.

That's nice to hear and was curious if that crossed his mind since I had thought of it at the end of last year. They'd most likely have asterisks next to any record he broke in the record book given the unique situation. Even with the pandemic, Buddy's going to have been here for 4 years. I know I loved college, but was ready to move on after graduating. Just felt like it was time and ready to go out on my own (though I did go back eventually and complete a Master's part time).

I agree, don't really think he gives a "hoot" about any records. If they fall, so be it. I think a lot will depend on how the team ends the season and, if they fall short of their goals, he may decide to come back depending on who will stay with him. He would love to see dad get another NC. Just my two cents worth.

He'll turn 23 at the beginning of the season if he stays another year. Regardless of the level he plays at, his initial chosen profession has a much shorter career length than most non-athletic professions. As much as he might enjoy college, he's had 4 years of it and I wouldn't be surprised if he is ready to move on with life.

College shouldn't be measured in basketball eligibility. Buddy is a senior this year, he's going to graduate this year. As much as I loved college, I left when I graduated. It's a magical bubble, but that bubble always pops (and maybe that's the reason it's magic?). Sticking around just to avoid the working world is seldom a good idea.

He is leaving because JB told recruits that he is leaving opening up playing time. He is leaving for the good of Dad's program. I've heard Buddy allude to this in interviews.
