Welcome back and great post. The year was clearly a raging success and agree that it's relieving to be talking about what can put us over the top against KC versus how the h@ll we catch up to the Patriots. It's strange to say coming off a 13-3 year but I think Beane has some major work to do on the roster in the years ahead. As JeremyCuse said above, I would consider trading down this year to pick up more picks. Strange to consider given that we have needs but we have to keep in mind a couple things: 1) Allen is going to be a VERY rich man in the not too distant future; 2) Hitting on draft picks and lower level FA is going to be essential if we want to stay competitive with cap flexibility. Obviously we're starting in a strong spot, but if it were me... A) Defense Line. Way too often this year we got zero pressure from the front four, forcing Frazier to bring pressure from the LBs or corners. I keep thinking about those Giants teams that beat NE in the Super Bowl- the consistent theme was that they could generate pressure on Brady with their front four. Mahomes is an incredible athlete and had way too much time to throw. We need to figure out a way to upgrade the talent. Murphy will walk, Addison hasn't done much, and I fear Hughes may not have much gas left in the tank. Jury is definitely still out on Eddie O and Epenesa but neither is a game changer, so far. B) Linebacker- this is a tough one. The defense was demonstrably better with Milano- but can we really afford to pay him a max contract with our other needs? We weren't a shutdown defense- did he contribute to this or was he keeping us at the upper echelon? Regardless, if a <cheaper> replacement is available that performs in the vicinity we may move on. Edmunds is a keeper. C) Quarterback- just kidding. Feels great to say that. D) Secondary- you can never have enough talented corners. E) OL- little torn here, wondering whether Ford coming back will help paper over some of the issues. Williams played great and would love to re-sign him. The running game NEEDS to improve but I'm not sure whether a top end, Etienne style draft pick is worth it. Moss was solid this year. Singletary is an enigma, but clearly regressed this year. I might look UFA to save dollars. Wide receiver- Brown is an obvious target but don't rule out a restructure. Obviously his health has been an issue. Going to be really interested to see how Beane and McDermott proceed. If you haven't read the Athletic article on McDermott- do so right away. The impression I get is he will stop at nothing to build a Super Bowl winner...wonderful to have the right leadership team while places like Houston are a disaster. Speaking of which- amazing how quickly things change. After last year's playoff debacle, would anyone have made that argument?
