Funny, looking back that team looks pedestrian on D compared to our last two final four teams.

No doubt they were elite offensively though.

This is why we've gotten farther in the tournament recently than back then (more sweet sixteen wins, more FF).

I think JB realized that we had the best player in college (not close) and barely won it all. But the way the defense causes issues got him to zero in closer on the kind of recruit that will be a nightmare in the zone. It wasn't a huge adjustment - you still need good offense - but it was a tick back towards a defense 1st mindset.

I somewhat agree. This year's team has really stepped it up on defense during the tournament. It's been lots of fun to watch. Their recent play reminds me of previous good teams.

I hear you but that team swallowed guys up when they drove the lane and got a ton of blocked shots. They also got their fair share of steals and almost always ran when they did.

The funny part about that article is that our offense defeated Texas. They had some early jitters and really looked lost looking passing against the zone but Mouton had a great 1st half shooting which kept them in it. They simply couldn't stop us.

Not saying they were bad on D, but Triche/MCW and Cooney/Gbinije are big upgrades at the top over Gerry/Duany, mostly cause Gerry really didn't play much D. They were effective though. Much easier for that team to score.

At least in this tournament, most of the credit should go to our primate helper. we were dead in the water in the last two games without trunk monkey. we literally "went ape" speeding them up. Everyone worships the zone but it really works against us when we fall behind.

I agree the zone has continued to change over time and is much more predicated on pressuring out top.
