Burn it all down

You go to the school that can prepare you for NFL money.

LSU > Michigan

Look I am fine with kids getting all the cash they can get, you are one injury away from it all drying up. But this kind of cash for a high school player?? They have that kind of cash, throw it at a portal guy who is well established. I guess they might do that too, considering all the NIL they have….

Lol. It’s really so dumb. There has to be guardrails implemented.

Yeah - Pro hoops had to be saved from themselves, after they were throwing absurd contracts at HS kids.

That said, since college $ is NOT "play for pay" ;)
and is solely for the Name, Image, and Likeness of a potential future college student-athletes ;)
then any attempt to control or curtail it, would be an assault on Murica and Capitalism!!

I put it to you, NineOneSeven - isn't this an indictment of our entire American college SportBall system?
Well, you can do whatever you want to NIL, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America!!

This was never the plan though. The plan was to “reward” kids for what they sell and offer. For example, Manziel sold $76million worth of jerseys his last year of A&M. That’s what he was entitled to a portion of but never got it. This whole thing is wildly out of control now

unfair to who?
Anybody who can’t afford to risk those $ and be wrong. Easy Answer. Have to be able to pay to play this game and the rich know it, that’s why they are doing it. It sure thins out the herd.

I don’t think there was ever a plan.

I still think the NCAA knew this would be a trainwreck - but figured any guardrails they attempted to put up would have been challenged in court and they would lose. So they intentionally let this turn into a disaster, with the hope of turning public opinion in favor of them taking action. It was always a gamble, both that people would ever accept any limitations implemented by the NCAA and that there would be anything left worth fixing once they let it get this far out of hand.

It’s really not that much 2.6 mil a year.

This isn’t wildly absurd to what a lot of these kids are getting.

How much do you think we paid McCord? Diggs? Etc
Enlighten me

I think it would be a pretty hefty raise for McCord. Regardless, the whole system is stupid. There has to be some semblance of rules. Every professional sports league in the country has them, even the no salary cap MLB. This approach isn’t sustainable IMO.

This is nothing about capitalism. Capitalism is good for business and money flow NIL is not good for college basketball.
