Wow, feel sorry for the Terp fans. That place was a bummer. I don't know how many times they flashed that "Make Some Noise" graphic on the big screen and just nothing from the crowd. You'd think they're 0-8. Most people in my section did get there until the middle of the 1st and a bunch of them left at halftime. Too cold, they said! What a bunch of p#ssies! Will be going to the bball game at Comcast. Maybe the basketball fans are more into it.

The Protect this House thing they did on their videoboards was comically terrible.
Agreed. What was up with the Iron Man thing?

Yeah, that was really grating. It's like they hired Sam Kinison's annoying sounding brother to do the voiceover.

Atmosphere was strange for the home team. Little cheering or support. MD fans showed up pretty late, and then left quite early.

I have been to very few away games, but that was pretty pathetic fan support. Felt like an AAC game.

After Miami, VT, and BC joined the ACC in 2004 and ESPN paid the conference what was - at the time - a ton of money, ESPN must have mandated their talking heads talk up the ACC. I remember Herbie talking about how great the ACC was, the wonderful game day atmosphere, the speed of the game, blah blah blah.

At the time I wondered if he felt at all like a whore, because he had to know every single word coming out of his mouth was a naked lie. The ACC was and is the Big East with name recognition. The fans are equally weak, the stadiums are equally mediocre, the game day atmosphere is substandard compared to the SEC/Big 12/Big10...it's just that people in Peoria had heard of NC State but had no idea what USF was.

Outside of Florida State and Clemson, the rest of the ACC is pathetic.

I disagree, Miami, VTech, GTech are all good programs that could have a strong year any year. We are improving. UNC is traditionally strong, NC State has good years ... Sorry, if MD fans didn't show it is bc their team sucks and their marketing sucks. And their fans suck. And the weather.

Nah, just realistic. I forgot about Virginia Tech, game day atmosphere there is legit. Gamday atmosphere at UNC/NC St/Duke/BC/Miami/GT/etc is no better than Rutgers/WVU/etc.

The tailgates looked strong, and the lots seemed full, but once you went inside,it was pathetic. The home fans could hardly make any noise at the right times. The visiting crowd always made more noise than the md fans.. I too was shocked to see how many md fans did not return after half time, and mass exodus at end of 3rd qtr...

Gameday at UNC and NCSU blows RU out of the water (having done all 3).

I thought UVA was solid as well, the post stating that ACC is like big east just isn't accurate. I went to several bug east games where the game was a rumor

Yea, not quite sure what Cusefan95 is talking about. UVA is middle of the pack and better than all old Big East atmospheres except WVU. The ACC is a major step up atmosphere wise. Its not the SEC, but it ain't the Big East either.

Been there too, great gameday.

Cusefan95 says outside of Clemson, FSU and Va Tech the gamedays are not much better than the old Big East?

First off, they are.

Second off, those 3 schools are not just impressive, they have some of the best gamedays in all of college football.

Third, if you're going to say outside of Clemson, FSU and Va Tech then we should look at the B1G outside of Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State. Are you trying to tell me how impressive schools like Minnesota, Indiana and Illinois gamedays are?

What is the definition of gameday atmosphere?

There were more people at the Corleone wedding than there were MD fans at the game. The MD crowd was the worst I have seen since my nephew's Pop Warner game. However, even they were more animated and made more noise.

When I looked across the field into the Terps side, I thought that the crowd might have been less than 20.000 until I looked up and down our side and I wasn't so sure. Many more Orange than I remember at PSU or NC State.

Our side was into the game and made lots of noise. Not just the LGO chant apparently heard on TV but lots of noise on MD third downs. The Orange crowd was responding to each other's cheers making it a great deal of fun.

BTW, after the 45 years of penalties against us resulting in a filed goal, MD send up some skyrockets from the end zone (really pathetic) prompting the line of the day when one Orange fan in front of us yelled, "Penalty - excessive celebration!"

After Edsall called the two freeze the kicker time outs when Ryan was attempting the FG at the end of the half, a chant of "Raaannndeeee" grew from our side. It was repeated loudly and often in the second half.

It was clear that the team heard us which was great for them to see at a road game.

Great fun - I encourage all of you to get on the road again!

Good question - I'd define it as what the experience is like when the team is 3-9. Every school (well, almost every school) has a better crowd/festivities when the team is strong - very few can sustain an enjoyable experience when the team is weak. There's not a lot of Ole Miss's out there.

If people want to argue that the gameplay experience at Virginia Tech is substantially better than WVU, or at Miami is far better than at Pitt, or GT is far better than Rutgers when the school records are comparable - we're going to have to agree to disagree. I've been to every one of those venues, there isn't a substantial difference.
