Of the 26 five star recruits listed for 2012, nineteen of them have already committed. Of the remaining 6, all of them list Kentucky as a school they are considering. Only one (Noel) is considering SU.

Why?

Booster's $$$, and promises of guaranteed NBA after 1 year with a proven track record of that.

i heard it mentioned during the OSU@minn game last night that UK has an open practice being broadcasted live from Rupp Arena this weekend on ESPNU. Dude is pulling out all of the stops.

He is a salesman, plain and simple. Cut from the same mold as PT Barnum. If he were a better coach, he'd have a few NCs by now.

Still can't believe they blew that game to Kansas when he was at Memphis. One of my favorite NC games I've watched.

easy answer: "you don't really want to go to school? you want to play in the nba as soon as possible and get rich? come to kentucky and use our system, we are no more than an nba feeder system.

Take a guy like Josh Harrellson. If he went to any other school, chances are he wouldn't have been drafted and then signed to an NBA contract. Sure the guy has size, but so do a lot of others who are riding the buses in the D league and in Europe.

Freshman want to start day one. What better place to go than where there are no upperclassmen.

Cal would take any player with hype.
Hes like video games or movies you just throw a bunch out there and people will buy into a few.

As much as I don't like Cal because of his history of cheating, the guy is showing himself to be an incredible innovator and he is absolutely dominant as a pitch man. Look at what he has done just recently: The 'extended' road trip where he takes his team to ESPN hq (players love it and free pub), he allowed UK fans to vote via twitter about which OOC rivalries to schedule when SEC conference games increase, the Anthony Davis poster thing (huge ego boost for the kid and must make other recruits salivate), the live broadcasting of open practices, etc. It really is amazing. Plus Kentucky is still Kentucky so it has its own swag.

I see Calipari as the Roman Polanski of College hoops. Everyone in the business knows he cheats and just ignores his vacated final fours and trail of damaged programs. Yet they can't help but to worship him. During that Vanderbilt game, Dickie V and Shulman (I think) were laughing it up about his "two years were vacated" joke. High comedy. They are totally willing to make light of rules violations that prevented another group of kids on a team doing things right to go to those Final Fours. The whole rest of their lives they preach the wholesome, student athlete, blah blah myths they love about CBB.

It's today at 3:00PM Eastern.

From 3:00 to 4:00 Practice.

From 4:00 to 5:00 scrimmage.

He's been on every ESPN radio show this week promoting this practice TV event.

My take when I hear someone congratulating Calipari on his "style":

Not gonna lie. I now really want to buy a trailer from that dude. I am gonna go ahead and assume since Senore posted it, that this guy is based somewhere in or around Lexington?

LOL, DNABB, I think it's Alabama. Oh - and for the record re-Calipari's "amazing recruiting run", bear in mind it never hurts to cheat, pay players and be a general criminal.

Big difference from Cal and other college coaches. He doesn't act like a coach he acts like a salesman and a promoter. Even the kids he recruits he recruits to promote.

Guys like JB, Calhoun, Pitino, Izzo, Coach K, Williams, Donovan, Stevens are there to coach the game. They look and act like coaches.

Coach K is a state to state salesman that will go anywhere in the world to sell his pitch. I feel its kind of sad to see something like that be successfull over what coaching is.

I remember him being gone for practice for 2 days recruiting. His team was practicing for a road game at Georgia I think. Sure enough he gets back to coach on gameday and is yelling in his players ears late in the game like hes the boss while they are loosing. If your not going to be there in practice don't show up on gameday yelling.

Some gemstones ...

NC's are won in FB and Hoops on National Letter of Intent Day. If you don't have the players its pretty hard to coach.

The guy coaches too, duh and he's solid tactician, IMO. Any analyst would tell you that. He gets these primadonnas to buy into team ball and they execute well. A LOT of other coaches wouldn't be able to pull that off.

Hate him like I hate Bill Belichick. But respect is there. Your average car salesman would've been out of CBB a long time ago. This guy is something else.

Want to hear a little secret? Those recruits who haven't committed yet are waiting on Calipari to give them the thumbs up. My gut is they called Coleman and told him they didn't have room for him. He fell too far down the rankings.

I.e. - Waiting for the checks to clear.

Playing at UK probably factors in a little with their rabid fan base, but he did the same thing at Memphis more or less so that's just a little bonus. The $$$ has to be nice, seems to offer players a lot of freedom to do their thing on offense, and at any other school you're probably going into a situation where you have to blend in. At UK you know you're going to be playing immediately, and playing with friends from all the all-star tourneys you're in. No waiting for PT and still playing at an elite level. Plus the $$$$. :)
