If goaltending is called there, score tied, we have the ball withe 6.5 seconds to go. We can then score and win the game there, or at worst, go to overtime. With those scenarios in play, odds of us winning the game are at least 60%. Instead, WVU has the ball with 6.5 seconds remaining, down 2. Obviously, they are going for a 3. Their chance of making it and winning the game there, probably about 40%. Same deal, folks. At the exact aftermath of when it happened, I wish they would have called it. I was more worried about them hitting a game winning 3 than I was about going to overtime, and that doesn't even figure in our winning in regulation.

You wish they had tied the score? Really? I mean, I guess I get what you're saying, but, sheesh - you can't want them to tie the score.

It would have been more like 8 or 9 secs. After WVA missed the shot there was the scramble for the ball before it went out of bounds. Clearly another sec or 2 had elapsed. If the call stood, we would have immediately called TO before inbounding.

If kevin jones knocks down that 3 you'd have been wishing they tied the score on the goaltending.

Definitely think you are overrating the chances of them making a 3 there. Last second shots, at least in the NBA, are a much lower percentage shot than "regular" shots. I bet it's 20% or so that we lose the game right there.

If the call was made, the clock would have stopped at the whistle, and they would have checked the monitor for the exact time.

More importantly ... who's on the court to take the last shot? Scoop, Triche, or Dion? ;)

Or the refs would've called us for a charge and sent WVU to the FT line to win the game.

Very good point. Seems to have escaped all of the talking heads. I would guess that the call gave Syracuse a 10-20% edge. But the important point that you nailed is that the blown call did not turn a WV victory into a Cuse victory.

Consider this ... if Jones hits the 3 at the buzzer, would anyone from WV or ESPN be complaining about it?

How on earth can anyone think the odds of us winning in OT would be 60%? We had one center left, and he had one foul. Bottom line is BMK would have likely fouled out in that OT and we'd be left with no true big men against Jones and the Mascot, and they would work us even worse inside than they already were.

It was a bad call, and one I'll be happy to take advantage of if it means getting out of that ugly game with a win. We didn't deserve that win, in my estimation, and we're fortunate to have gotten it.

Didn't say 60% chance in OT. We still had a chance to win in regulation. 6.5 sec. is a lot of time for Dion or Scoop to get upcourt. I meant overall 60% chance of winning, 50% in OT, plus another 10% in reg.

If the basket went in or counts as a goaltend, overtime is likely. Syracuse at home probably wins the OT.

However, I was shocked to see a bad call go our way.

I notice that niether Higgins nor Burr were at the game, because we definitely would have lost if either of them were there... Even as fans.

Even when in the bonus? I'm not sure thats correct

Even in the bonus, the other team does not shoot free throws after be the beneficiary of a charge call. You never shoot free throws on player control fouls - which an offensive charge would be. The only time you will see free throws in that instance is when the refs count the shot, in which case it was not a charge (player control foul) because the refs determined the shot was taken prior to the foul occurring, thus making the foul a loose ball foul.

Here is the thing with that call that WVU fans need to grasp into their tiny brains...

The game prior against Cincy Kevin Jones CLEARLY called a time out with 2 seconds left and the game tied. The ref was staring right at him and it should have been a technical foul as the whistle blew after Jones signaled for a TO. That would have put Cincy at the line and they probably win the game.

Funny how no media or WVU fans are bringing that stroke of luck up.

Interesting and thank you. Never knew there was a difference in fouls once in the bonus.

Huggins apparently doesn't agree. Otherwise why did he draw up a play for a 3 not once but twice out of a time out on both of their opportunities on that possession?

In any case you need to also factor in the chances we score with 9sec's left as pointed out.

the problem with going OT is the fact that rak has fouled out and moose has 4. outlook cloudy.

We need a payside to this website. lol
Ever hear the story of the Chicken and the Pig? The Chicken wanted to start a Ham and Egg Breakfast Joint only! The Pig replied, "To you it's a contribution but to me it's a sacrifice"!
