I think our RB's are as good as ND's-PTG and AAM looked good out there I think our OL is fairly similar to ND I think our QB played as well as theirs yesterday (when you factor in turnovers). So what was the difference? 1) Playmaking WR's-We have guys who are athletic, but young and/or raw-Estime, Ishmael (so i hear), Custis. Our more developed guys have been catching the ball very well this year (West-who showed he's much more than a "body" yesterday", Lewis-who catches everything), but right now we don't have a guy who can consistently do both-catch well and separate. I think a healthy Estime is the closest thing to it. A Mike Williams on this offense would totally change this offense, especially in the red zone. Also doesn't help we only have 2 CB's-more on that later 2) Ill-timed penalties-I know there's never a good time for one, but it seemed almost every drive, a false start by someone-OL, WR would just kill our momentum. It seems we've been this way forever. IF one of the young guns can develop and we use them down the field to stretch it, as well as cut down on the pre-snap penalties, i believe we have enough talent to be a good offense. Oh yeah, last thing. We're not good enough to not have a Kicker. I've said it before, but I believe the staff made 2 big gambles in the Spring that have backfired and really hurt us and it's not 20/20 hindsight b/c many saw it coming. 1)Could not afford to take a chance on Krautman recovering/Norton improving 2)Could not afford to only have 3 CB's with experience coming int the summer-needed to either in someone, whether JC or the Offensive side of the ball and let 'em work at it for more than 2 weeks before the season. No one can say they're shocked that at least one of our top 3 CB's were going to go down. Hopefully lessons learned.
