Calling it now

Team X was the best team all season, and lost one game in the playoff. Is that team really better?

I know this is rhetorical, but yes, I expect that’s coming.

It’d be like somebody buying a bunch of stuff on their credit card and saying “look my card never got declined I’m rich.” Then they go to the Benz dealer and try and buy a G-Wagen and it gets declined. Whole point of a playoff is that you don’t count the average, you count the one that mattered most.

Put $100 on Clemson to beat SMU, and you get $70k.

Not even the longest odds.

SMU to beat Clemson, +32,000
Clemson to beat SMU, +70,000

The two worst are:

Arizona State to beat Indiana, +100,000
Indiana to beat Clemson, +100,000

Then you know what the narrative will be...

Team X was the best team all season, and lost one game in the playoff. Is that team really better?

All SEC/B10 pundits are gearing up for the above.
Regular season regular shmezon. Just like baseball, just because you were the best team for a while doesn't mean you still are. Injuries/depth matter. Original playcalling deep in the season matters.

How many times did the Packers choke away a championship? Nobody complained that they were the best team during the regular season. SEC/B10 can bite it if they lose.

SMU-Clemson rematch in NC game. SEC and Big 10 implode.

I watched a Youtube video yesterday where a guy simulated the playoffs on College Football '25 - first round every road team won and the championship was SMU over Clemson. The comments on that video were hilarious; many speculated he rigged it to give a crazy outcome just to drive up his views.

I doubt he rigged it. The sim game AI for 25 is trash. Or at least it was upon release.

You really went way out on a limb with that hot take !
Haha I was responding to the hot take that SMU and Clemson will be in the championship game

By the way, #1 seed Oregon has the hardest road to the championship. That’s not right for the number one overall seed

That is the folly of a 12 team tourney. Sixteen teams would have #1-#16, #2-#15, etc., the way it works best. Too bad so sad. The B1G bullied everyone into the bad setup and now their champion must face the music.

Here’s a bet for you; I bet you $100 neither team makes it to the championship game
Sounds like you have some Sam "Ace" Rothstein type knowledge about football. I'd better leave this one alone.
