Can someone finally explain to me why Triche was not on the line at the end of the first half?

They reviewed the clock, realized, correctly, that the ball did not leave his hands till the shot clock ran out. BUT there was clearly a foul called while triche initiated his shooting motion.

yet they then wiped out the foul call as well? did they actually review the play and then say "no foul was committed" ? video cannot do that!

Just like players, refs can have a bad game as well. I think Boeheim should have fought for that though before they went to the locker room.

Agreed, the foul happened before the shot clock violation, therefore the FOUL should have been called, and since there was a foul continuation is allowed, but only if it is completed before the shot clock violation. therefore the correct call should have been Triche at the line shooting two.

Nope. The ball is dead after the shot clock violation.

clearly raked across the arms before the shot (most importantly) WITH TIME ON THE CLOCK!

hello, a foul resets the shot clock, hence there should have been no violation..just a wipeout of the bucket. do you mean to tell me if triche DOESNT attempt a shot there he gets ft's..but since he completed the shot...he gets nothing? doesnt seem equitable

looked to me like the ref signalled the foul prior to the shot clock expiring.

that play never happened, the announcers told me so.

also, obvious blocks are now goaltends

Another horrific call by three inept officials who screwed up several today.

UNCA player came across BT's wrist with :01 on shot clock, therefore there was no shot-clock violation. Very clear on replay.

The clock stops on a whistle. Brandon was clearly - CLEARLY - fouled before the shot clock expired. Therefore, Brandon should most definitely have been on the line.

And yet the only bad call anyone will talk about for the rest of the day will be the ball out of bounds off Brandon at the end of the game that was called in our favor. I actually heard the Westwood 1 announcer say it probably cost UNCA the game.

The ball out of bounds off of Brandon as he was getting hip checked, you mean?

really bizaare what happened there. they ended up calling it a dead ball and the only reasoning i got was because he didn't shoot it before the shot clock expired.

the foul is wiped out because if it's a 2 shot foul but then you gotta count the basket but you cant count the basket because the shot clock expired. so it's now a dead ball.

why not call the foul on the floor then; non-shooting foul? bizzaare. rule needs to be changed.

Nice research. But if true, was this rule somehow developed by the US government?

the only thing I can think is that if they allow continuation on the shot but then the shot didn't count, then the foul never happened. sorry reaoning but I sort of understand it. Its one of those strange things like allowing the basket seconds after Melo's foul to the chin of the a player that was only called after looking at the replay! What I want to know is if Xmas got hit with an hard foul for hitting the guy in the chin with an elbow (which he clearly didn't) after he was fouled would he still have gotten the foul shots?

at the arena they announced "no foul, shot clock violation". Didn't explain further & left the impression that foul was after the clock violation. Total B.S. - the player for Asheville had already fouled Triche with 1 second left on shot clock (1.7 left on game clock) - if you don't count continuation of the shot then Triche clearly should have gone to the line for 2

Yeah.

BT was fouled in the act of shooting. The fact that it was a shot clock violation AFTER the foul was committed doesn't negate the foul. I don't think I've ever seen a foul call taken away by something that happened LATER in a game - really bizarre.

Why does a shot clock violation after the foul get enforced? But a foul after the touch by Triche on the inbound play not get enforced. SU lost on BOTH of those calls.

How many times have we seen SU bail out an opponent at the end of the shot clock by fouling him either on ther floor or in the act of shooting. The announcers scream and yell about that every time SU does it.

really wondered why the TV guys didnt follow up on that call at the half ? but they follow up 20 times on a correct call..

Similar question: on that controversial call where Triche got hip checked and the ball went out of bounds off his fingertips--why was it that Scoop got to shoot the free throws there?

And another odd play: late in the game, KJ got fouled in the backcourt after a defensive rebound. He goes to the line, drains the first two...and then lines up for a third. All of the players [including the UNCA players] just lined up in the lane like everything was normal, and it didn't even seem like the coaches picked up on it. Finally--very late--the refs seemed to figure out that he'd already made two, and they gave UNCA the ball out of bounds. Weird--hard to believe that the UNCA coaching staff wasn't all over that.

There was no foul called on the hip check, but they ruled it off of the UNCA player. Syracuse inbounded to Scoop who got fouled 2 seconds later.

That free throw situation with KJ was weird.

What if he gets creamed and it prevents him from getting the ball out of his hands and the shot clock expires. You would still count the foul. Makes absolutely no sense to say that the foul doesn't wipe out the shot clock violation....in fact the foul could be said to have been what prevented him from getting the shot off before the shot clock expired.

It was really a strange play, in the sense that I don't think I have ever seen it set up like that before where the timing was just right and the refs had the ability to go to the replay to adjust the original call. While no one outside of Syracuse cared, it would be interesting to have the network ask about how it should have been called because it seems to me to be a somewhat unique situation. Certainly a more interesting situation than would you have called the ball out of bounds off of Triche differently?

I agree with this.

When they went to the monitor, I figured it was to determine whether there would be an "and-one," or just the two free throws. I couldn't believe when they determined that it was a shot clock violation--looked to me like the foul occurred on the floor while there was still time on both the shot clock.
