Federal Law (FERPA) prohibits ANY university representative from disclosing ANY personal information about a student's record (which is why a student grade reports are sent to the students these days and not the parents). Similarly, HIPPA prevents any health care provider (such as a team MD or trainer) from disclosing any information about a patient's medical record. Marrone & staff are simply complying with the law and avoiding a potential lawsuit. Imagine a scenario where disclosing the nature of a star player's injury might affect his draft status.
