The NYC media don't hate Carmelo or most other players (other than the total jackasses).
They don't want them to fail.

It's really very simple.
If you're getting uncountable money to play in the city...you'd better do your job.
And it's highly suggested that you find a way to win.

The 5th paragraph here says it all: the superstar did what superstars get paid to do:

Yes, NYC and the assorted media hold our superstars accountable, just like Philly, ChiTown, any place where you have a rabid fanbase.
But that doesn't excuse the media from being hypocritical Debbie Downers who love to harp on the negative w/out any insight whatsoever.
You get a bunch of yahoos who make blanket statements w/out any context but as soon as there's success, they change their tune. How many times did they mention the Knicks getting swept by Boston last year, w/out once pointing out that Stat and Chauncey were BOTH injured? No, it simply became "Melo can't win playoff games"... until yesterday.

It's kind of stupid. The Heat are an objectively better team than the Knicks. Losing the series isn't a big surprise. Two seeds should beat seven seeds over the course of a seven game season.

That's a pretty boring story though.

Seriously, where is the fun in that? It's a lot cooler if every loss is proof that the best player on the team sucks and will never figure it out and every win is evidence that IT CAN WORK.

Well, yeah.

A better story might be..why is a team with Melo, Stat and Chandler barely scraping into the playoffs in the crappy Eastern Conference?

Do you see who is playing in the backcourt? Baron Davis and Mike Bibby are about 80 years old combined, Landry Fields wouldn't be an all-star in the D League and JR Smith is JR Smith.

Battier, Miller, Haslem, and especially Chalmers make the Heat better. The Knicks outside of Melo, Amare and Chandler for the most part do not.

Those guys are ok (and I like Chalmers for sure) but I don't think they are the main difference between Miami and NY. Miami has Wade and Lebron, and no one else does. Miller can shoot it but I think he was hurt for a lot of the season. Miami's depth isn't all that great; Battier shot below 40% and Haslem was at 42%. I understand they can contribute in other ways but neither player is what they once were.

Knicks depth was bad; they started the year with no guards. Then they gotLin and JR and had a nice stretc but JR never really shot the ball as well as he could, they battled through injuries, and they quit on their coach. The Knicks had about 7 different seasons this year. Will be interesting to see how they do with a full offseason, training camp, etc.

Ummm, no semblance of a backcourt because of injuries, age, coaching change, etc.?
The team invested in a upper-tier frontcourt trio, but because of those & other factors, they never gelled.
Look at Chicago w/o D. Rose- they're getting clobbered by the Sixers...yes, the Sixers...and they have Boozer, Deng, and Noah (b4 the injury). Without an adequate PG in this league, you're not doing diddly.

D Rose missed 28 games this year and the Bulls went 19-9 and managed the best record in the East. Just saying. 3 All stars and the defensive player of the year are not enough? Need an all star at every position?

Only one of those guys was an all star this year, and he didn't deserve it based on the way he was playing at the time. They basically had one legit all star this year (Chandler). When Melo played great in April, they had a great record. They also had a really good point differential, which is an indication they wer ebetter than their record.

Since when did the number of All-Stars on the roster guarantee a team's success? They've been plenty of teams with good line-ups that ended up doing squat. You still need consistency & chemistry for your line-up to gel, something the Knicks didn't have this season.
This year feels like the team's gone thru 4 different seasons, and to suggest they should've just breezed into the playoffs is to be unrealistic, IMO.

Sounds like Woodson is our coach going forward. They are reporting contract talks between MSG mgmt and Woodson. I think this is great news for Melo and the Knicks. Im all in on seeing what Woodson can do with a full training camp/season with the core of Melo/Amare/Chandler and most likely Lin and Shump rounding out the starting 5. Ive also seen Jonny Flynn pop up on a bunch of reports as possible LLE pg's the Knicks might look to bring in next year for a backup. Baron, Bibby and TD are done. Baron just a horrific injury, Bibby is probably done after this year and with Lin, Shump and Baron down with injury Woodson still doesnt want to play TD, that cant bode well for Douglas.
