Carrier Dome replacement would not include pee troughs

I heard they were looking to have the same contractor as the Sochi Winter Olympics.

If I read that right, they are planning to be able to seat 49,000 for basketball!

They have to keep the pee troughs. The scents and smells cannot be duplicated. Hell I've even cought people having a halftime smoke in them.

Unclear from that if the 5,000 retractable seats would be to fill in the football field for basketball, or be moveable like the current setup.

My comments on Dome replacement letter:
  • Foley's Raij is a mercenary, his statements must be viewed accordingly
  • The $495m estimate appears low-balled. It should have included 20% contingency and parking (req'd for public facility)
  • Probable real est. - $495m + $99m + $100m = +/- $700m
  • The plan is for the new stadium to be public, not private. Which stakeholder is speaking for the public interest in the debate?
  • A site close to the University is preferred. That means within the City, but the City is not even a partner. Whoa.
  • The last time the public option got nixed due to the NIMBY crowd, so SU went on its own. Won't be any easier this time
  • SU will just be a tenant, so if JB retires, performance tanks, crowds vanish, SU walks away (?). Who pays the huge tab?
  • Transportation is essential, so must be tied into NYS plans. Could take a long time to happen.
  • "The univ is continuing to analyze ... additional improvements" to the Dome. So rehab of the existing Dome is still on the table.
Since this is a proposed public facility, let's keep the process open. I want to see the full report in PDF format on line.

It was mentioned elsewhere (I believe by TGD in a radio interview), that SU would sign a 30-year agreement to make use of the facility for football and basketball.

Of course they will have to commit to about 30 yrs. But if attendance tanks, what do they do? Raise enrollment rates?

They should look long and hard at the rehab alternatives. Keeps control in their court.
