Carter

Yeah says he is still committed but making a visit to Rutgirls this weekend.

If there is any question about his health, good opportunity to make a call.

Let's hope Shafe and company have talked to him too. Really want to keep this kid like most.

I would offer him a shot at RB like Rutgers is if that would make a difference

Don't lie to the kid. Not worth it.
agree

look kid - if you want to play LB, go to SU - and if you want to play RB, you're SOL b/c Rutgers is going to move you to LB your true freshman season

the rutties premium board has a 40 post thread on the Carter visiting them.

My impression is that in order to play lb, he's going to have to work at it. He mainly played rb in high school and probably feels most comfortable there. Whether he ends up at rb if he chooses Rutgers, remains to be seen, bu it is a position of need there.

Rutgers told him he "would play a little bit of running back and fullback".

Who said anything about lying? Give him a shot at RB w/ an understanding if he's not gonna see the field there he'll move to LB. Did we lie to Kevin Johnson? Doug Hogue?

That has always been my position on the "position issue. Give them a chance at their favorite. If it doesn't work out go to plan B Their chance must be legitimate in opportunity, not a scam job just to move them elsewhere.

Rutgers rivals site has an article on devan carter up
I hate everything about Rutgers get them read all they want about Carter. I think he comes here unless those toads lie to him blantantly which I would not put past them. They have learned from their previous shady coach that if you lie enough then eventually you will be believed.Tell the kid the truth and work with him Never a need to lie to recruits. The truth is out there.

If SU said he could try RB and then move if it didn't work out, he'd shut the door on everyone else. Devan really likes Shafer, but for what's it's worth, a different Rutgers coach, including Flood, have/are taking turns visiting him in person every week from last until signing day. On the positive side though, Devan doesn't love the idea of playing FB at all.

This is and always has been a conundrum when it comes to the position question and it's an extremely difficult thing for an honest recruiter when you tell the truth and the other one is lying through their teeth and just tells the kid what they want to hear.

Ah it. Let him try running back. If Gus flips on us the I see no problem giving him the chance.

They told Ashton he could play QB to right?

if the kid doesn't love the idea of playing football, then being a LB under SS is probably a bad idea anyway

and on the flip side - go to rutgirls and take a couple hits from the Iowa or Ohio State linebackers as their horrid offense continues to hand off and go nowhere and he'll REALLY be loving football

I'd assume you tell the kid where you thing they'd project to play but to be honest you really don't know sometimes until they're on the field competing with their competition. May be best player at that position play but I understand it isn't always that simple and sometimes need forces kids into their second or more best position.

FB I assumed meant fullback.

oh, got it. either way - the point is that rutgers BLOWS and anyone who would go there specifically to play offense has cognitive problems

They can sell a RB on getting 40 carries a game though. Doesn't matter that they'll average about 1.2 yards per carry.

It doesn't sound good for Gus, so even more incentive to give him a shot at RB-He has pretty similar measurables as him.

I don't feel good about retaining Gus but we do hold the trump card which is all of his best buddies are still on the team here. If they endorse Shafer and the staff then maybe he won't change his mind.

If he has any dreams to play in the NFL, he would not want to play RB/FB. That position is practically extinct in the NFL.

all the new coaches coming in on offense are the bad-ass recruiters, no? would think they'd be all over the highly rated offensive commits and near commits, re-selling them on SU
