I realize that Cavs wife is going through a terrible situation and having lived it i know how it can devastate a family so that has to be taken into consideration when evaluating our offensive line coach. In addition there have been a slew of injuries that have also significantly contributed to our woes. Still the situation is one that needs to be examined and improved if we are to ever have success on the field. Step 1 is recruiting. To date Dino and crew are batting about 200. Regardless of why they have wiffed more times than Ronnie Bloomberg. This year it looks as though Cav is stepping up and making progress. Question, other than Cav who is involved in identifying and landing OLs? Step 2: S&C . The Wolverine should review his approach as our OL kids dont seem to change much. Weights are on a yo yo. Up Down.. There doesn't seem to be proper goals set. As to strength we dont seem to have much. The line is often overpowered. I cant count the times that we are unable to gain a yard. Is it because they are asked to run fast in order to play fast? Dino likes to say we are "As fast as our slowest player" this leads me to question training priorities. O lineman need good feet, intelligence, strength and SIZE. Bag the sprints and focus on raw strength with an attitude. 3: coaching. The jury is out on Cav but next year assuming he has a healthy group he needs to perform. Last year was the worst oline i have ever seen. This year is better and again he gets a pass. The bottom line is the offensive line coach is arguably the most important position coach on the team. Teams with great offensive lines win games. They are able to make every other position better. The Oline is actually the straw that stirs the drink. Dino needs to do everything in his power to completely revamp who he targets, how he trains them, and most importantly who coaches them if we are to become a successful program.
