Those line-ups add to the team's ball movement on the perimeter, provide another shooting threat and another driving threat, and give better balance of inside and outside scoring. You end up with fewer minutes for Chukwu/Coleman, but the other way you limit White or Battle, so why do that? Then consider how Louisville & Virginia Tech will pressure our guards, in ways we have not seen yet. You can't play the big line-up (with Lydon at the 3) against teams that can bring pressure.
