Louisville at Syracuse Game Preview Broadcast Date: Friday, September 9th Game Time: 8:00 Venue: Carrier Dome, Syracuse, NY Network: ESPN2 Why Louisville Will Win Can Syracuse possibly slow down Lamar Jackson and the Louisville offensive machine? The Orange D isn’t Charlotte, but does it have the defensive front to get to Jackson before he can get rolling? The pass rush has to somehow work enough to keep the explosive Cardinals from getting into a groove, and it won’t be there consistently enough. The last thing Jackson needs is time to operate, and he shouldn’t have a problem lighting up the mediocre Orange secondary when he gets on the move. The bigger issue for Syracuse will be keeping QB Eric Dungey in one piece. The Cardinal pass rush turned it loose from the linebacking corps against 49ers, and against an Orange offensive front that had a few problems against Colgate’s D, the pressure should be there all night long. Why Syracuse Will Win It’ll take an offense with some pop and explosion to keep up with Louisville, and the Orange showed it off in the opener with Dungey holding up well against the pass rush and coming up with deep plays, sharp medium-range throws, and everything in between. Former Maryland Terp Amba Etta-Tawo caught 12 passes for 210 yards and Ervin Phillips 14 for 87 – the Orange have weapons now. There weren’t any real down spots for Louisville – it hung 70 on the board – but it got a little sloppy with turnovers and penalties. If this is going to be a track meet, mistakes are going to matter. The Cardinals should be a bit more focused after not having to try last week after the first few drives, but on the road in a hostile environment, they can’t start giving it away. What’s Going To Happen? Lamar Jackson isn’t going to come up with eight touchdowns in the first half again like he was last week, and he’ll be contained just enough to keep the Orange in the game. The home crowd will carry Syracuse to a big first half, but the Cardinals will roar back in the third quarter with the defense turning up the pressure. Everyone will tune in to see Jackson, but it’ll be Devonte Fields and the linebacking corps that gives UofL the ACC win. Louisville at Syracuse Prediction Final Score: Louisville 38, Syracuse 30 Line: Louisville -14.5, o/u: 58.5 ATS Confidence: 5: Run to the Window – 1: Watch For Fun …3 Must See Rating: 5: Sully – 1: Skip & Shannon Undisputed … 3
