I don't think its controversial comparing Moesch to GMAC, I think it is preposterous. Moesch being half the player McNamara was is a dream scenario. Even though he was ranked 38 in his class by RSCI, GMAC greatly outplayed his expectations from his very first games. He scored 13 in MSG in his career opener. Anthony wasn't the only revelation in that game. Moesch isn't ranked for a reason. McNamara had an elite skill and it wasn't "intangibles." GMAC was a lethal shooter, full stop. He could come off screens, shoot off the dribble, catch and shoot and pull up jumper. If he was a guy who had teams around him that allowed him to just come off screens or catch and shoot, he might have still made 400 threes, but at a much higher percentage. Or did everybody just think "JB says things" when he gave his "not 10 #$&^&#^ Games" rant about GMAC? Moesch might be a good player, he might even be a great player. But if he is even in the same conversation as GMAC after his freshman year, I would be nothing short of astonished. I give the odds of him playing 10 minutes or less per game, with multiple DNPs as a higher probability than him hitting 85 threes and scoring 467 points as a freshman. I find some of the comparisons we see here silly, like Doty to Rautins (in another thread) and Moesch to GMAC. I suppose its natural to compare players we haven't seen with ones we have. But Moesch doesn't resemble GMAC in any way other than being short and white.
