Looking at the roster does anyone know if the staff was actually counting on Chance and McCleod to contribute this season. I would think in McCleod's case yes. Otherwise, how do you go into a season with only one center. As to Chance I wonder if they expected him to be PG number 1 with Carlos coming off the bench. Regardless we have been without them all season and between Donnie and JJ have not together for the majority of the season. Question is if they were counting on them i think that on paper we are a much better team. If not its another indication that the staff did a poor job putting this years team together.

Why McLeod went from Starting before his injury to not even playing except in garbage time is beyond me.
And who could expect that after being held back by a knee injury, he would have contracted a serious illness. And is apparently suffering from yet another medical issue.
Poor Chance has literally no good luck at all.

I think it is more likely that a segment of the FANBASE had those expectations for Chance, based upon highlight clips.

There was little evidence to suggest that he was a point guard, let alone that he could stay healthy.

In his first two years of college eligibility, he sustained injuries to different legs that caused him to miss both seasons. Counting on him this year, accounting for BOTH the inexperience and the ring rust after not having played for several years, would have been foolish [and, I daresay, it sounds like an attempt to fish for another excuse to explain this year's poor performance].

And as it turns out, third year / third set of health-related complications causing him to miss essentially the entire year.

The team gave us the impression that Chance would be contributing in some form this year which they shouldn't have. McLeod was expected to play also as he "played" last year. This year's roster is a complete disaster and we can only go up from here. If we can't get an experienced P5 point guard to run the team next season, we should just go with Starling and have him do nothing but point guard duty and drills all off season. Moore and Kiyan can handle the 2 spot and the Australian and/or a lesser portal pg can come off the bench.

I could not believe they had him come back. Why, he has no skills! I mean how many 7'4" 24 year Olds are playing college basketball?

I agree but you can't force a player to transfer. If McLeod wasn't getting any schools reaching out, what is he going to do?

Now now, you cant expect a D1coach to build a complete roster in the post NIL world! That's just an unfair expectation for a small private school with limited basketball history. In the words of the great Eric Devendorf, you just don't know basketball!

I don't think Syracuse is outside the top-150 in NIL funds. I don't think its been as big of an issue that some people make it out to be. Every manager wants more money for their team/project. Having more budget is always going to be the first thing a manager asks for. And then time.

regardless of whatever was happening with JB, Red needs to be able to put together a good roster without holes every single season...many NCAA coaches can do that just fine at smaller schools thn Syracuse

look at how louisvulle did it in 1 year once they got rid of kenny payne

my conjecture is that red sees himself as a father figure to his players and cares for them as such...but it clouds his vision as to how good they actually are and what they can actually do...and also maybe hes just a bad talent evaluator

i like that red cares so much for his guys...i think its why he is a great recruiter

but hopefully the GM can cover for his weakness in roster construction (if he is here next season)

and he can get different...way more skilled assistants that can cover for his other weaknesses in game management, strategy scheming etc

i really dont mind the idea that red is more the pr guy/recruiter/face of the program and other people handle the technical aspects of his role...i think that thats the only way he could he stay on
