Good to be in the discussion that is for sure. Still seems like a very random assortment of schools, hope he ends up making the right choice for himself. Can't imagine this will be easy for the young man. The way I see things breaking down are as follows - Syracuse - Seems to have the largest collection of "knowns", he will have former teammates from IMG on the team, and knows a good number of Iroquois Nationals who played at SU. Would certainly fill a need given that Desko offered the 22 jersey. With technically four starting midfielders returning, Scanlan could move to attack, or bump a midfielder down there depending on what the coaches think would be best. He'd probably draw team's best defender which would free up others for big production. Is that a role he would want? Some guys don't always want to be "the guy". Obviously the Haudenosaunee Promise Scholarship is a big advantage, as it covers not just tuition, but also room and board and meals. No other school can offer that. Cornell - Scanlan would get to play with Teat, but only for one year, and even with Teat, Cornell didn't make the playoffs last year. Still, he would finish with a degree from an Ivy League school and play relatively close to home. Plus it sounds like he could study Native American studies which he sounded interested in. Johns Hopkins - From outside observer, the biggest head-scratcher of the schools included. He'd be tied to Joey Epstien for three years which has to be a draw, and he would fill an obvious need as the Blue Jays are struggling at the midfield. Can't remember Hopkins ever having a Native player on their team before, but maybe there is some draw in Scanlan to be the first. Plus he'd already be acclimated to the city after playing at Loyola. Virginia - The front runner right now has a lot to offer as they are coming off a National Championship and have a lot of players returning next year. They could certainly use Scanlan at the midfield where they lose Conrad, but UVa also has a lot of highly rated recruits coming in the next few years. Would they risk upsetting the future kids by taking on a sure thing in Scanlan? Future recruits could always tell themselves he's not taking their position, it'll be someone else whose playing time is cut, so it could work out just fine for Tiffany and co. Plus he has his cousin Zed Williams to vouch for the school and team. He wouldn't have to be the man at UVA, though there is still only one ball and Kraus, Aitkin, Moore and Laviano demand a lot of it. He may be fine not being "the man", but is he fine sharing the ball with so many other dynamic players? I do wonder if UVA has the money to offer Scanlan, but again I'm not 100% sure how this stuff works with transfers.
