Once upon a time, in the city of Syracuse, New York, the college basketball season had begun. The Syracuse Orange, led by the legendary head coach Jim Boeheim, were looking to make their mark on the 2003 season.

The team had a talented roster that included future NBA players like Carmelo Anthony, Gerry McNamara, and Hakim Warrick. From the start of the season, it was clear that this team had something special.

The Orange started the season strong, winning their first few games with ease. Carmelo Anthony quickly established himself as one of the best players in the country, averaging over 22 points and 10 rebounds per game.

As the season progressed, the Orange faced some tough opponents, but they never lost their confidence. They continued to play with a swagger and a belief that they could beat anyone in the country.

One of the biggest games of the season came against the highly ranked Pittsburgh Panthers. The Orange came into the game as underdogs, but they put on a show for the home fans at the Carrier Dome. Carmelo Anthony scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and the Orange pulled off a thrilling 67-65 victory.

As the regular season drew to a close, the Orange found themselves ranked number two in the country, behind only the dominant Kentucky Wildcats. They had earned a number one seed in the NCAA tournament, and they were considered one of the favorites to win it all.

The Orange made their way through the early rounds of the tournament with ease, winning their first three games by an average of 18 points. In the Sweet 16, they faced a tough Oklahoma team, but once again, they rose to the challenge. Carmelo Anthony scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and the Orange won 63-47 to advance to the Elite Eight.

In the Elite Eight, the Orange faced the heavily favored Texas Longhorns. But once again, the Orange refused to be intimidated. Carmelo Anthony scored 33 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, and the Orange won a nail-biter, 95-84, to advance to the Final Four.

In the Final Four, the Orange faced the heavily favored Kansas Jayhawks. But the Orange didn't care about the odds. They played with confidence and poise, and they pulled off another stunning upset, winning 81-78 to advance to the national championship game.

In the championship game, the Orange faced the heavily favored Kentucky Wildcats. But once again, the Orange refused to be intimidated. Carmelo Anthony scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and the Orange won a thrilling game, 81-78, to capture the national championship.

The Syracuse faithful celebrated in the streets, and the Orange players hugged each other in disbelief. They had accomplished something truly special, and they had shown the world what Syracuse basketball was all about.

Kentucky in the Championship game? Me thinks ChatGPT has messed up again.

I'm using it a lot for work and it is chock full of errors. Be careful out there!

Thank you. This is super helpful as ChatGPT should theoretically be very good at factual requests and we literally lost our fist game that year.

11 point win being referred to as a nail biter.

Yikes!

As soon a I saw "Kentucky in the championship game" I thought the reference switched back to 1996.

Yes, I believe we lost the very first game of the BB season to Memphis I think.

Anyway, the overview of the OP is very much appreciated. Ah yes, I remember it well. I have both final four games on DVD and all the CBS and ESPN post game coverage.

Let me conclude with some lyrics from one of my favourite Bob Seger songs "Like a Rock":

20 years now, where'd they go?
20 years, I don't know
I sit and I wonder sometimes

Where they've gone

I tried to ask 'Why is Syracuse Basketball so bad this year?" Response was effective, "I'm sorry, we only have records to the 2021 season" and gave some drivel on that.

We lost our first game.

Carmelo didn’t do much against Pitt - it was Warrick who had the big game that day.

We were never ranked anywhere near #2 at the end of the regular season and did not earn a 1 seed.

And…Kentucky?

Wow, this is stupid.
