Great piece by Donna on Bell. She noted he was shooting 40 percent from 3 in mid January, then hit the proverbial freshman wall and only shot 26 percent the rest of the way. I think he’ll shoot it more consistently this season. It sounds like he’s gained weight and added muscle, and he acknowledges his rebounding needs to improve and that JB’s pointed criticism of his poor rebounding was warranted. Seems like a good steady kid.
Good to hear. Interesting diet. I think I would lose 14 lbs if I gave up candy and soda, lol.
BTW, in the picture hes wearing 52, I have no recollection of that being his # last year.
So many examples in SU history - skinny freshman forward gains weight and improves in many facets of his game. Why not Bell?We all know if he can shoot he plays but it would be nice to see a total expansion of game. Looking at his stats per 36 the lack of impact in any statistical area is quite astounding
Agreed. Think the first key for him was the change in mindset which it seems he's embraced. That's a great start. When i watched what little film I did of him in high school I think it was literally like 98% shooting threes. I think he's a kid who was good at that and that's most of what he was asked to do for a long time. Sometimes it just takes the kick in the pants of someone pointing out that being part of a winning basketball team -- at least at this level -- requires you to do more than just shoot ... especially on those nights when the shot isn't going in as much as you'd like.So many examples in SU history - skinny freshman forward gains weight and improves in many facets of his game. Looking at first year stats might not be the most useful way to predict. How about his pre-season play?
Interesting that he was frustrated. The coaches love Chris and he’s a great kid. He was insanely frustrated last year but it lit a fire under him and the staff is really going to trust him to be a big piece this year
I still remember him saying that “He did not have to rebound in high school”. Hope that mindset of his has changed.Agreed. Whether this happens or not we'll find out in the preseason/early season.
Interesting that he was frustrated.
I thought he received far more than he earned. Though part of that is we really didn’t have a good SF. We had a bunch of freshmen, all with promise and none of whom were ready for prime time.
Ehhh I really hope not. There’s a few other guys that looked quite better than him in the open practices. I think 20 mpg is fine. JMO.He is a really, really good shooter and will most likely be our best shooter again this year. That will automatically earn him PT and a leash with Red - so you really hope he can capitalize on these minutes and grab some boards and play D. He could be a 30mpg guy this year if he rebounds, especially with Westrys injury
Funny you say that because I was thinking the exact same thing about both points. When I stop eating sugar, I tend to lose weight.Good to hear. Interesting diet. I think I would lose 14 lbs if I gave up candy and soda, lol.

shumpert altho perhaps our greatest shooter ever was also very adept at jumping the passing lanes in the zone.I think it’s very possible that Chris Bell shows a similar progression between freshman and sophomore year as Preston Shumpert.
This is a dog whistle to BEES and I.shumpert altho perhaps our greatest shooter ever
Interestingly enough, the Schumpert brothers play on this Daemon team coming in Friday night for the exhibition. Both transferred there from Stony Brook.I think it’s very possible that Chris Bell shows a similar progression between freshman and sophomore year as Preston Shumpert.
I loved to watch Rafael Addison shoot. The guy was silky smooth. Raf had a nice long NBA career. This is a dog whistle to BEES and I.
Our greatest shooter was Greg “Kid” Kohls
