In my opinion, the above clip from the Virginia Tech game is the quintessential Chris Bell play. Here's the series of events. (I attempted to link to the video at the 39:12 mark, which is the start of the play.)

1. Syracuse inbounds from underneath the VT basket to Bell.
2. Bell passes to Lampkin and cuts to get open.
3. Bell is open for a pass for perhaps a fraction of a second, but he is very close to Lampkin and even if he does catch the pass, the defender probably recovers to force a tough shot from Bell in the corner. Lampkin holds the ball.
4. Bell turns his back to Lampkin and throws his palms up as if to say, "What? I was wide open!" Then proceeds to take a couple of steps OUT OF BOUNDS, COMPLETELY OBLIVIOUS TO THE ACTION.
5. Red claps, gestures, and screams at Bell to run the baseline to the opposite corner to give Lampkin room to operate. (The sound of the clap is audible on the broadcast.)
6. Bell takes a couple of hard strides to the opposite corner, and then slows down to about half speed as he begrudgingly sets up.
7. Lampkin takes a few dribbles to back down his man and a double team comes.
8. Lampkin throws a skip pass to Carlos.
9. Carlos quickly passes to Bell, who is WIDE OPEN.
10. Bell knocks down the shot.

To sum it up, Cuse ended the possession with 3 points, but had to endure a lot whining and loafing to get those points.
