Chris Petersen expected to be named Washington head coach today. Will be one of highest paid in PAC-12.

Good for him. Always liked what he was able to do with the talent in Boise. Seems like a good development coach.

he also recruited some very questionable talent to Boise. Kids who would never make it in state universities in cali.

Are they still on probation? I know they had scholarship reductions.

Really good guy from all reports. I always thought he was waiting for the Oregon job, probably was. Eugene is his type of town. Dude is really granola for a football coach not a typical meathead by any means. Probably figured after the Kelly left and didn't get it he had no shot. UW is 2nd best for him. IMO, he is a great coach a big upgrade over Sark. He has to hire some recruiters though.

pac 10 has a great mix of offenses now. they pretty much cover everything now

If I am not mistaken Peterson turned down Oregon last year before they went with Mark Helfrich. I am shocked either Oregon didn't offer Peterson the job or he really saw the writing on the wall at Boise. Washington is a top 4 job in the Pac-12, but I like Phil Knight U more than Washington just because of the $$$.

Quite the recovery for Washington after losing Sarkisian.
I always admired what Peterson was able to do at Boise, but that is a much different gig than Washington. The college coaching landscape is littered with coaches whose success at one level did not translate to the next (Skip Holtz, Randy Edsall, and Turner Gill come immediately to mind).

You could look at Boise itself. Dan Hawkins going to Colorado.

But I think Washington is in a much better place than Colorado was. I think he'll do pretty well there.. He won't duplicate the Boise success, but I doubt he'll duplicate the Ty Willingham era at UW either.

This makes the Pac-12 even stronger, imho.

Oregon, Stanford, and Washington in the North division and USC, UCLA, and ASU in the South.

It will be hard for Cal, OSU, or WSU to get much headway in the North.

Cheers,
Neil

Highest paid coach in the Pac 12 now. Shaw's agent will be sure to seek out the Stanford AD and President at tomorrow's tailgate.

He was not offered the job at UO
