It is time to hang up the jersey and close the locker at the place that has provided me more than I ever imagined. But it is with great excitement that I would like to announce I will be playing basketball and attending Pace University’s Graduate School of Engineering and Computer Science this coming fall to play my final college year of basketball and earn my Masters Degree. I am extremely thankful and humbled to have been embraced with the love and support that the people of Syracuse have shown. There are too many people to thank for this “fictional like” experience but I know without my teammates and the character they comprise; I wouldn’t have the eternal inordinate memories created throughout the past 2 years. Thank you #CuseNation!!! #paceuniversity#pacebasketball#pace

What's the real life value of a Master's from SU vis-a-vis Pace? They can't be equivalent.

Pretty sure where you go to school has become mostly irrelevant once you get past your initial post-school job. Most of the time it doesn't even matter these days with most people becoming entrepreneurs or getting involved in small startups. The only situation where your schooling is truly important is if you want to climb a corporate ladder, otherwise its a piece of paper you hang on the wall.

Getting to play in addition to getting one's Masters for free has to be an attractive option.
I'm a little mixed on this one. He could have transferred to another D-1 school from Monmouth, sat out a year, then played for two years and still got his Master's paid for. It was nice he came to Syracuse, but don't fully understand why. Especially he if wanted to play in real games.

I've read on here that a family situation played into his decision to transfer to Syracuse.

This is so spot on

Hope he can work on those celebratory bumps at Pace

Remember when people here said he was a malcontent who refused to accept his role or something? Way off the mark.

I thought the plan was that he wanted to go into coaching ultimately and to be able to get two years in a program of the stature of Syracuse and see how a HOF coach runs things was a major opportunity. Since he did still want to play a real season next year, he decided not to play in junk minutes this year. Sounds like a great plan and it worked to a "tee" since he also got to experience the Final Four.

And we'll always have that moment when he was leveled by Mike G during a chest bump!

Having a master's degree paid for thought versus paying his own tuition?

Given this fifth year transfer option, I'm surprised that more athletes don't go this route if they can.
