Anyone you lives in the Capital Region knows about some myyhical/non-mythical handshake agreement between Danny Wegman (or his dad) and Neil Golub.  It sucks there is no Wegmans, but there is a very strong supermarket presence among Price Chopper/Market  32, Hannaford, Aldi, Trader Joe's, Fresh Market and Whole Foods.  Plus some pretty decent Italian markets, Fish markets, Meat markets, Florists, Bakeries and Sam's Club, BJ's and of course the Walmart groceries.  And Costco will be here in a year.

Wegman's prices were high 30 and 40 yeas ago.  That never stopped them from becoming the juggernaut they are.  What Wegmans offers is convenience, selection and a clean and well stocked store.  Something that you can't always find in one place in the Capital Region.   And I'm a huge Price Chopper guy.  Been shopping there since it was Central Markets and my Mom would walk there and I would tag along on my tricycle.  But Wegmans would definitely take a good market share from them and everyone else.
