CJ Is the Best Player On the Floor

"A man among boys"

Perhaps vs. Colgate; but once we get to ACC time he won't be far and away the best player on the court every game.

Also, does anyone think the ball movement is better this year than last year? MCW was good, but so much of the O went through him and he dominated the ball whenever he was in. Rak, DC, and Keita are all capable passers and other guys are willing passers.

He's a man among boys this afternoon. I expect we'll see more of this all year...

Unfortunately, at the present moment, the 2nd-5th or so best players on the floor play for Colgate.

The only negative so far this year for CJ is turnovers. A bunch of them were fluky so I don't expect them to continue to the same extent.

Need to step it up defensively once again

At the moment, this is the weakest SU basketball team in years. At the moment.

We're 121-26 overall with a 3 seed or better in the tourney every year since 08-09.

There's no where to go but down haha.

edit: I lied, we were a 4 seed last year, but the Final Four appearance makes up for it!

This is also the youngest SU team in a long time. They are still learning how to play together. Last year, all we heard was how shitty we shot...how'd that end up?

The have one freshman who is playing big minutes. We've been just as young the past couple of years.

Our only upperclassmen are BMK, Rak, and Fair. That's only 1 offensive threat.

Last year we had Triche, Southerland, and Fair as upperclassmen.

In 2012, we had Southerland, Joseph, Scoop, and Triche as the upperclassmen.

In 2010 we had Wes, Rautins, AO.

So maybe in numbers we're just as young as last year and in 2010; but the talent isn't close.

One thing that concerns me a bit so far, and I know it's very early so I'm not too worried yet, is that we get absolutely NOTHING off of our transition defense except for the times we are in the press. This has been something we have thrived on in the past, we are getting no steals at the top of our zone, and hardly any deflections in the passing lanes. Am I overreacting, is it too early to tell, or could this develop into an issue?

Anyone else notice the announcer talk about Fair for the last 45 seconds only to realize it was Grant? Jeeze...look at the forehead bro; no headband=no Fair!
This play-by-play guy is brutal…..can't tell Grant from Fair, and insists Roberson's name is Robinson. My sound's now on mute, cue the music.

This goes back to the topic a few days ago about the top of the zone not being as good as the past few years. While that's true (Waiters and MCW aren't walking through those doors) I think Cooney and Ennis will improve and with that will come more turnovers. They both have really quick hands, and while they don't have the length MCW did, I think they can be disruptive the more they play and get used to it.

When was the last time we had a freshman guard get major minutes at the top? Flynn? It takes time.

I think the bottom of the zone will be the best since 2010; Rak, BMK and Fair are vets down there; Grant is a stud and it looks like Roberson has picked up quickly. Coleman is also improved from last year. I love BJ's potential on the defensive end too.

Biggest difference this year so far is at point guard. Ennis doesn't look comfortable at all...he can't get into the lane because he isn't hitting jumpers and defenders are laying off him. He's also having trouble getting us into transition. His development will determine how well we do in March...

Agreed. It's rough to say but it's the worst we've been at the 1 in a while (depth wise too) but he is the first true freshman to be handed the keys since Flynn. The coaching staff is really high on Ennis so hopefully they're right. But I agree with you, he isn't doing anything too well right now.

This was a problem last year, too. It appeared that the rebounders were locked into the point guard. In the past, outlets go to any adequate ballhandler who can start the break.

Small sample size this season, but it bears watching.
