This was a classy move on Dabo's part. Per Syracuse.com...

"I reached out to him and just chatted with him a bit (Monday), just let him know I felt sorry about the situation and wished him nothing but the best."

As much as I used to loathe Dabo for the whole Ogundeko stealing, he really is a good dude.

Him and Shafer have grown pretty close and that was awesome of him to reach out.

I agree. They have come a long ways from the whole "'u Dabo" incident.

I’ve never advocated keeping or firing Shafer (so don’t start with me) but I really believe if Shafer was given Cutliff type time he’d have gotten it done (with Lester).

I agree that he should have had one more year. But what is done, is done. The most important thing is Coyle goes out now and gets someone who the fanbase can get behind and re-energize the fans. I am sad to see Shafer go, and would hate to see him end up on an opposing teams sideline. Does anyone else worry that Dabo or Cutcliffe may have something up their sleeve??

That is what I worry about with the love fest between these two. Maybe not DC, but some other role on his staff.

Venables is probably in line for head gig somewhere at this point. He's served as both AHC/DC before.

Anyone who picks up Shafer for a DC slot is going to have a great D. He is a proven DC and will have a very aggressive D. Imagine if he had 3&4 star or 4&5 star talent on his Defenses at Syracuse?

i wonder how many teams at this point are playing a backup linebacker regularly at defensive end (Vigille) and a walkon at QB. Ben Lewis played TE all day on Saturday. stuff is the norm for every team they'd say.

And our departing players are all workout warriors and kill it at the Combine.
Undersized guys like Shamarko and Cam Lynch who put up insane #'s.

We definitely want to move on from all of that, ASAP.
