How many duke, unc, and notre dame games are on tv for the locals? Got to figure this out.
Any espn3 game should be picked up locally, it's as simple as that. I don't get how our local tv obtained the rights to a grand total of one game (maybe). How many duke, unc, and notre dame games are on tv for the locals? Got to figure this out.
That's because the Big East had a much simpler TV contract.
TW got everything that ESPN didn't want.
With this new ACC deal there are too many mouths to feed (ESPN & Raycom) before the local outlet gets a sniff.
While thats true, Raycom has obviously not picked up this game so why hasn't CnyCentral worked a deal out? For all the BS that comes with TW, televising SU events was the one thing they got right. Were almost two games into the bball season and so far the TV production has been a disaster. The game against Cornell was on a special TV station with a feed from god knows where down south as I didnt recongize one commercial for a local company and the picture quality was pre flat screen bad. It was so bad I had to change the aspect on my tv to watch it. In todays day and age that is totally unacceptable.
I'm guessing that CNYCentral doesn't have access to the game because ESPN hasn't released it (since the game is still on the ESPN Family of Networks).
For the amount of $$$ ESPN is paying the ACC (and indirectly paying SU), they're going to hold back more content for ESPN3 that used to filter down to the Raycom and local levels.
These negotiatiors obviously weren't closers. Maybe they could have learned something about closing from this Oscar-nominated scene from Glengarry Glen Ross. In the end, CNY viewers got 3rd prize:

I guess what you need to understand is that CNYCentral did not purchase the games from SU. They purchased the right to show the syndicated ACC Network games in the CNY area. With this package they get a football game each week (SU was on this package for GT and will be for Pitt). Later in the basketball season there is a package of games that air on Saturdays and maybe Wednesdays (if I remember correctly). CNYCentral, or the RSNs (cable networks MSG/YES) don't get to pick the games they get to show. All they said is they're the local home for the ACC Network and will get to show whatever SU games show up on that package.
There are no local rights in the ACC. This was pretty well discussed during the conference movement threads. All rights are owned by the conference and ESPN. ESPN sub-leases some games to Fox regional channels (the ACC RSNs) and some more to Raycom (ACC Network). Anything not allocated to those, will end up on ESPN3.
Thanks that definitely clears up some of the questions/issues surrounding the TV agreements and rights. However, I find it a bit hard to believe that the local affiliates cant work out some deal with ESPN to carry the games that Raycom passed on and are now ESPN3 only games. Something tells me Duke vs Radford isnt going to be an ESPN 3 only game in Durham.
nbc could show it on 3.2 or 3.3 if they wanted and not cut into anything.Well someone in Durham would have to report on that, as I would have no clue. The problem with having a network affiliate is that they have to preempt some highly rated primetime show in order to broadcast a limited appeal sporting event. I can only imagine how many calls NBC3 would get for preempting some dumb show like the Voice for an SU basketball game where they're winning by 35.
But again, we're not talking about games that they own and can lease out to whomever. There's a distinct pecking order. Also remember that ESPN is still trying to drive viewers to their broadband offerings, and this is a good way to build up demand.
TW negotiates from a position of more money than NBC3 does. TW could get the game too but they havent . ESPN must have some financial reason for making it almost impossible to get the games on local TV.. maybe thats the story that NBC3 should be showing, but hey we got to see the local dude play volleyball this morning instead.

What your saying makes sense especially the part about ESPN wanting to drive viewers to ESPN3 and there other online offerings. Still the issue about CNYCentral to me is the big one. If there to worried about pre empting the voice they they shouldnt have bid on the contract and TW should have the rights or the ability to negotiate with ESPN. They could at least put it on channel 6, no one watches that station anyway.

This is exactly what is happening. We're now paying indirectly for the big contract with ESPN. My ESPN friend hinted recently that we'd be seeing more SU games on E3 than ever before.

I added a proviso you didn't. Not all companies give access to ESPN3.80% of Americans have a laptop. If you also have high speed internet with an ISP that provides ESPN3 you can watch ESPN3, whether you live in Syracuse or Alaska. I don't care about people whining that it's not on the local Syracuse channels when these people probably still have SONY Triniton Tube TVs.

Espn3 doesn't work for everybody and I have Internet and flat screens. I also have verizon Internet at my business who won't let me register because I am a business. I also have att but they won't let me register because their system is down for business's but claim it's the ESPN app's problem. And for those Cuse fans who live outside of the Syracuse region...this is EXCELLENT!! I'm a doctoral student at UMass, so I won't be complaining about the games on ESPN3.

That's cbs coverage. They had no part in obtaining that other than being a cbs affiliate.cny central has 4 su basketball games on the schedule according to suathletics schedule starting with our acc opener vs Miami on 1/4/14
