Like his comments re what's going on, but suppose he decides enough is enough and goes elsewhere. And suppose JB's nine game ban sticks. Who would coach those games. GMac? AA? I think it's a good reason to solidify his position now.

Hop is gonna build a fence and protect JBs legacy. If he leaves it wont be before the suspension is over i.e. after next season. Frankly I think that's a big if

Here's a question: do those 9 games go on Hopkins' won-loss record or Boeheims?

They said any wins/losses do not go to JB's record.

Hopkins has a contract to replace Jim Boeheim as Syracuse head basketball coach upon Boeheim’s retirement. That deal has been in place for several years. Hopkins has done nothing to warrant vacation of that agreement (he was not connected to any of the allegations in the NCAA’s report) and everything to reinforce he is the ideal successor (including recruiting the vast majority of the team’s most prominent players for the past couple decades).

In choosing to announce nearly two weeks after the NCAA’s ruling and imposition of sanctions against Syracuse that athletic director Daryl Gross was being reassigned and Boeheim was presenting a timeframe for his retirement – “in three years,” as the chancellor put it – Syverud had the ideal opportunity also to proclaim, “And assistant coach Mike Hopkins will proudly take over the program at that point and lead it forward into a period of both success and compliance.”

Or something like that.

That is a very strange and ranty article. It also generates more mythology. The new mythology is that University Chancellors select basketball coaches. I was under the impression that ADs did that. And we don't have an AD right now. Another strange aspect of this exceedingly odd article is the attack on the Chancellor "for taking over." Well I thought we all (meaning the media) agreed that Boeheim is a cheating and conniving individual responsible for a wide spectrum of atrocities? So why wouldn't you want his boss's boss taking over?

Well, we are in an appeal process. I don't think we would want to say that now. at least in public. Privately, now that may be a different matter.
