Possible Melo may not want to play in 2016. That's 3 summers away, at that age he might prefer the time off

Easy answer - why would you mess with something that has worked as well as this

Taking a quick look at the 2012 roster and trying to guess who won't be there in 2016, based on age. Kobe definitely not. Probably no Chandler, Iguodala, and Williams. The wild cards are Melo, Lebron, and Chris Paul. They'll be 32, 31, and 31 respectively in the summer of 2016.
