I’m going to guess the state of Tennessee if they will allow an athletic program to run a deficit in order to swing above and fund a coach it’s the University of Tennessee not Memphis. All guesses, have no idea how that state works. Despite all the crazy FedEx Money for NIL, they have ceiling on coaches salary. I would be asking them as a candidate if they know they will have an opportunity to go to a power conference soon that could be a big piece of maintaining the FedEx deal long term. Until Memphis becomes a power conference program, it’s a job for a very promising young coaches who can take advantage of their resources to springboard to a prestigious power conference job that wasn’t available to them yet. If Memphis wants a guy that Syracuse wants, Syracuse has to prove it’s a prestigious power conference job.
