I am not in favor of Coach Hopkins being the hire. In fact, if we absolutely have to hire an alumni, I would go with GMAC. However, lets not insult Hop by saying he is no better than Red. He did win Pac 12 coach of the year his first two years so he must know the Xs and Os to some extent. Even his last 3 years at Wash he had either a winning record or a break even. I dont know enough about BH to know if he is the slam dunk coach many here are saying. I just know this hire has to be about what is between the coach's ears, not how many dollars he brings in the door. Red has proven that you can have good talent but you need to know how to coach in order to make the best use of them. As was said in a different thread, I dont think anyone believes that Red could have accomplished as much with the Siena roster as Gerry has done. Again, we need a coach with a definite offensive and defensive game plan, someone who can watch what is happening live and make changes in game or at half time, and someone who knows how and when to make substitutions. And someone who will change the culture so that players will work hard and never surrender on the court. They need to be tough, not the cream puffs currently wearing SU uniforms. I dont include Kyle or Kingz in the cream puff description, even White to some extent. But the rest, dont care or only care about themselves.
