you can still be trying to raise more for NIL and be a better job. What's lost in the NIL chat is trying to have the funds to fund a roster in the upper echeleon of college ball. We have no issues being Georgia Tech or Wake Forest. The discussion centers on making sure we're in the top part of the ACC and nationally. A lot of that is because of some structural problems in how we go about NIL (IMO) and because we didn't have a bball collective in place. And because results have been bad. Donors and businesses don't want to back losers. Money may be tied to a candidate but the real fundraising occurs after the hire is announced for the portal funds (at least it does for SU). Hopefully we build a stable base that's not tied to one off season but that's the reality because the on court results have been bad. This community is dying for a winner. The passion and desire is here. I think people forget that sometimes - I travel a lot for work and very few basketball cities have what we have. We're the only game that matters. The community pride is real. I think we hire one of the top candidates out there and the money will follow. It's just tough because Gerry is the most beloved player of the past 25 years. It also doesn't hurt that he's a blue collar kid from PA who looks like our average fan. Undersized, scrappy, overlooked. Not saying that makes him the best candidate but it is why a lot of money is behind him.
