recruiting like mad this week and hitting all their top targets with in-home visits. Some of us speculated they'd be practicing all week but I guess not and I'm thinking hitting the road recruiting is the right thing to do. I assume its class catch-up time and workouts.

We know that GMac and Lester have been in Florida and Smith out in Chicago and it looks like things are going well on that front.

Edouard is firm as is Roberts. They've also secured some new official visits. Rising LB (recent Oklahoma offer) from Georgia Jonathon Thomas will visit in January as will new target Chicago Simeon offensive lineman Denzel Ward. Ward goes 6'8 285 and has reported offers from Purdue (committed), Arizona St., Florida, Oklahoma (visit), Michigan, USF, Wisconsin, UCLA (visit) and both sites report an Ohio State offer.

This weekend we're getting reported official visits from:

LB Niles Sykes (chicago) (O) Notre Dame (visit), Missouri, Indiana, Iowa State, Purdue, USF, Cincy, NIU

DE Chris Slayton (chicago) (O) Illinois (visit), Michigan State, Missouri, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Indiana, Mississippi

DB Cordell Hudson (florida) (O) Rutgers (visit), Iowa State, Boston College, USF, Wake

QB AJ Long (tennessee) - committed

Excellent.

Really hoping that Alin Eduard turns out to be the dual purpose QB we have been seeking since 1999.

Wish we could have gotten these guys a better game this weekend than Binghamton

It's all about their interactions with the football team and staff behind the scenes. In addition to seeing the bball game, they will also:
  • get schmoozed during an awesome meal at Dinosaur BBQ,
  • get walked through the updated football wing,
  • given a tour of the famous Carrier Dome,
  • shown the Heisman Trophy,
  • understand the importance of #44 at SU,
  • walk through the film rooms and shown how they prep during game week,
  • given a detailed description of how each of them will fit into the system,
  • shown the plans for the IPF,
  • stay in the dorms with one of the players,
  • meet with all of the tutors,
  • hear about the success an SU education can provide outside of football,
  • go out and party with the players around campus.
  • Most importantly, they get to have candid convos with Shafer and the other coaches.

SU does a good job during official visits. I'm expecting several verbals during the few big recruiting weekends they have set up.

I dont think they can practice until they know if they have a game..

Have to get that IPG going... Break ground, pour some damn footers

Should do like they do in china - put up a bunch of 10 foot high plywood around the site so you can't possibly see in without a helicopter or a saw, and have architectural renderings every few feet on the plywood. For full effect they could throw a 2.5 O out there and get him to walk the perimeter without smiling or acknowledging human presence who come to look at the architectural drawings. In china they do this because what you see in the drawings is rarely what you'll get, and because they are tearing down traditional courtyard housing in the process. For us it would just be a good ruse until they actually do something physically with the site.

you can see that area from the apartments on south though, as well as the stands at the soccer field. It wouldn't work.

Does HCSS go on the road as well? He was at the BB game last night.

Ward was originally committed to Michigan too - big time OL prospect.

I'd love to see Shafer give Holley a visit and try to get him up for an official. Maybe bring Hunt with him. As Shafer himself said after the last game-Never give up!

I love Edouard being solid, too, but don't forget about or sleep on AJ Long. It will be a good battle. More important, I love the AJ Long is coming up for a visit with the 3 big Defensive recruits. He'll work them harder than our coaches for a commitment. Here's hoping he and they are successful!

Hunt looked like a pretty decent dual-threat QB last week. I have a feeling it's going to take Edouard a few years to develop. He'll have to jump Hunt, Wilson and Kimble and compete with Long. All good.

seems like AJ is here every weekend, I love it and maybe he is there is their ears about coming to Cuse.

Regardless of how his career turns out, this kid is already emerging as a leader 'off the field.' I will be pulling for him throughout his career.
We had a guy very similar the year Marrone came in... Think his last name was that of a fruit... Lime.. No that's not it...

Heck of a lot better than getting guys that didn't even play starting qb for their HS team. Times, they are a changin. We have a hungry hard working staff out there recruiting their tails off and a coach that understands that this is part of the equation of being successful and is willing to do his part to help. The HC has to be a closer, I'm thinking SS is but we'll see in February.

If this staff can keep all the verbals and get X amount of high targeted players...wow, that is all good.

The tide seems to be changing indeed. These coaches, namely McDonald, have quite the network for recruiting. There's a coach on the recruiting board posting about directing his guys SU's way in the coming years. If they can make that sort of progress downstate and in NJ, 6-6 will be the laugher year.
