Granted it was without any pressure but i liked what i saw out of Coleman. With Cal being pretty thin and weak inside i would love to see him get some minutes and if he does i would like to see us feed him the ball.

It may depend on the pace of the game. If it's an up & down battle, we will rely on Keita & Christmas. I don't think Coleman can get up & down the court quickly enough.

I'd like to see DC2 get at least some time vs Cal to see what he is capable of. Yeah I know the tournament isn't the time to test a guy, but the tournament tests a lot of guys. We sorely need offense from the bigs, and if he can prove fairly adequate on D, I think at least a short spell could prove healthy to the team. Not hard to envision BMK and Christmas being in foul trouble if we make it to an IU matchup, and if IU actually had someone they had to worry about defending in the paint now and then, it could be a chess piece that may balance out its losses if used correctly.

Cal plays 3 big guards - one of them is the Pac-12 player of the year (Crabbe) - and two big guys inside. It is a weird formation for SU to face. Will be interesting to see how JB addresses it.

Coleman might be able to effectively out mustle their big men inside, but not the game to experiment.

I'm like every other SU fan in that I loved seeing Coleman get some long minutes against Montana. I loved seeing his heart and intensity and some of his strength. But he was up against a vastly undersized and underskilled opponent and only when we were up by 25+ with the game safely in hand. Boeheim's unwavering philosophy and approach to the game is always defense 1st (and 2nd for that matter) and Coleman is our 3rd best defensive center. I really don't think he's too far behind Christmas in that regard but JB is incredibly unlikely to play DaJuan in the round of 32 unless the game is secure and well out of Cal's reach. I really wish his development had come a little quicker and he had more play throughout the season and even wish JB and staff had shown a bit more restraint and faith in him at times but the reality is that we will have to wait til next year to see more. And, as long as we have consistent outside threats from some combination of Cooney, CJ, Ennis, Patterson and/or G, Coleman is going to be UNSTOPPABLE!!
