NCAA basketball must make some decisive moves to save itself. The sport does not exist just to benefit individual players. Intercollegiate Sports was not created for what we have in college basketball today. It's time to wake up and play hardball with the NBA Players Association and demand a 3 year stay in school if a kid commits. If the kid is not interested in college and wants to get that 1st contract over as quickly as possible, then go to the draft right after high school. This system works for baseball. What's the difference other than the general profile of the majority of the players? It's hard to be a fan of college basketball and not be upset by all that has happened to downgrade the quality of play from lack of players staying to the way the game is officiated. "For the good of the game" is cliche but should be a real concern for all of those people who love the college game, and should be the guiding force in the decision making process for eligibility, and the rules of play and their enforcement, rather than whats best for individual players and they're ability to capitalize financially at the next level.

Early entry is killing the college game.
Its not just early entry, its the skills too. In the MCDs game, which are the one n dones, they shot a horrendous 7-42 from 3 and most of those 3s were uncontested. Just watched the consensus #1 HS team Montverde shoot like 10% from 3 while i was watching and their free throws stunk too that i saw- and they won! The game has simply become elite size and athleticism imo...and then as you say those elite players move on quickly...

I can't believe this post only has 3 likes. With the exception of a few of mine this is the best post of the year.:)

I'm sure I have a lock on the most idiotic post of the year. 1/2 the time I say something stupid and the other half of the time I just get lucky!

It's now just a game of 3-pointers and dunks. I miss the mid-range game and passing.

However, I really like the way ND played offense this year. Lots of perfectly timed pick-n-rolls with excellent kick outs to open players making 3-point shots. It just looked like the players knew what to do, where to go, and when to do it on offense. I would like to see the Orange play like that. The other thing I liked that ND was doing after every change of possession they pushed the ball up the court as fast as they could. We used do that years ago but lately not as much. After pushing the ball up the court on every possession towards the end of the game the bigs on the other team were exhausted.

I agree with 95% of your post, but who exactly do you want to play hardball with the NBAPA and demand this?

Yes and No. I think your giving "early entries" way too much credit for the demise in play recently (past 5 years). Let me explain.

Early entries are not a new phenomenon. It rose heavily around 2001, and the number of early entries has actually held fairly steady since then I beleive. SU has just been bit a little more in recent years.

So a full cycle of "early entrants" was completed by 2006. I am sure that the level of play in college was worse in 2006 than 2000. So certainly early entrants have hurt the product -- no doubt. But the people out of the NCAA in 2006 is really no different than 2015. And I think many think 2015 is worse than 2006. So what other large factor is at play.

I say the biggest problem is defensive system coaches... and moreso those who play stall ball. Coaches want too much control now. Its hard to control your offence, hard to control the opponent's defence... but one thing you can control and focus your practice time is on your defence.

Money talks. Players leave. All I would like to see is the NBA hold off from taking college players until after two years of CBB. I like the college game. The NBA is very distruptive. I don't even watch NBA games. It's just not fair but who cares enough to do something about it?

Why not allow teams to draft rights to a player out of high school or in college? NHL and MLB operate successfully with that model.

Just play hardball with the NBAPA.

can't believe no one had thought of that before.

AAU for sure is killing the game. Fundamentals don't seem anything close to say 20 years ago when players arrive to college. All of our minds are blown these days when we see a player who can actually 'put it on the floor,' or 'make a play.' It's basketball!!! One should be able to dribble the ball. Not just launch threes or dunk.

There is an interesting issue growing in American HS soccer which may spill over to BBall at sometime.
Many HS players and club coaches feel that college soccer s the player's growth as soccer players. If a kid wants to play high level soccer beyond college, don't go to college, go play in pro developmental leagues. I think college basketball s growth for pro basketball, as the college game is currently played. Basketball needs to look at that model.

the refs and how the ncaa works them has killed the game-

guy shouldnt fly to a different state every night for months to ref games to make as much as he can-

they should be paid employees and have there travel limited to keep them fresh in mind and body

they are lazy and because of it dont call even close to good games anymore and just let the defenses get grabbier and grabbier every year

Many HS players and club coaches feel that college soccer . . . . . . s the player's growth as soccer players. Dear Mods:
You are censoring words strictly based on the word, rather than the context.
Is that what things have come to that properly used words get censored?
