Great (long, but great) read from CBS Sports:

I hate this trend.

But if so many the "big" football schools are having major issues - I have to feel like if we can someday (soon) re-bridge the gap between 35k and 45-47k ... we would benefit exponentially greater than perhaps schools like Michigan and even Georgia and Florida.

The bigger question more out of sheer curiosity -- what is the "average" football school student -- the ones who used to go to games -- doing instead on their Saturday afternoons???

This trend goes for all major professional sports as well, whether it's the NFL, MLB, NASCAR or the NBA people are choosing to stay home in front of their big screens and drink their store bought beers.

It's sad because nothing beats the adrenaline and intensity of seeing your favorite team play in person! A lot of these newere stadiums were overbuilt and have way too many seats.

40k seats for football is plenty for us, worse case a demand is created if all games were to sell out. Less is more in this day and age!

This Is The Canary In The Coal Mine For Football.

The games are too long.

There are too many penalties.

I believe that this will eventually impact TV viewing.

I know, I know Scooch.

I have no supporting data.

Take the TV money and lower the cost of tickets.

The number of people with disposable income for games is shrinking, so they have to find ways to cater to the more affluent and finicky "fans" that are easily influenced by gimmicks ("fan experience"). It doesn't address the larger problem that a lot of people cannot afford tickets.

Are people really saying "I wasn't going to spend $200 for tickets, but now that there's towels involved? Whoaa. Sign me up for that!?" Sadly, if you have the money your decision likely depends only on trivial things like WiFi and if the attendants are wearing mickey mouse ears.

Thanks to all those damn TV timeouts. I hate that red-shirted bastid with the stopwatch!
