It's not as uncommon as you might think. At age 11 my son played on nationally-recognized travel ball baseball team and began to get letters of interest and invitations to camps from schools all over the place. One was the Naval Academy and another was from the Junior Olympic committee. By age 13-14 he was hearing regularly from D1 schools with information only letters. Kinda makes you wonder.
