To be fair... I think the post misses the mark in comparing the 2 sports. But it does speak to the frustration and ongoing challenges the football program faces. Basketball is still king because of the recent and longer term success. SU is fortunate to have The Dome as a venue still drawing huge hoops crowds(and revenue). This offsets the typical football is anointed king at most similar schools mentality. Football revenue is still vitally critical to the sports programs overall. And let’s hope the trend to upgrading and spending back into facilities/coaches salaries, etc...for football especially starts to lead to sustained success. Or the start of a run of success. The greatest concern for both is and will continue to be recruiting. Hoops is trending in right direction. They needs bigs moving forward who can contribute immediately and further develop what they have. Football frustratingly has been challenged and needs to continue to improve recruiting overall. Let’s hope the staffing stabilizes and gets such on track. If nothing else, fans are obviously passionate about both programs. Wins should be celebrated and losses are obviously frustrating. Onward to the next game Tuesday. A win is a win and as long as no one gets hurt and misses time going forward, it’s a good win.
